is it posible to take the tranny out without undoing the clutch

So is it posible to take the tranny out without undoing the clutch from the flywheel? It would really make things alot easyer if it did.

Thanks

FYI: the flywheel and clutch are a modular system on our car, so they would come off together. As for your question. taking off the transmisssion without taking off the clutch shouldn't be that hard, but it wouldn't be a real big problem if it came off as well, since our flywheels and clutches come as one unit.

Like bigrand said we have modular systems meaning the clutch and flywheel are in one unit. The clutch is bolted to what is called a flexplate, on the motor. When you remove the transmission it will still be stuck onto the motor, like so...

Ok. I'm not sure if I'm understanding this right. last time i took my tranny out i undid the 4 bolts from the flexplate to the clutch but i had a real hard time putting the clutch back on. so i was wondering if i could pull the tranny out without undoing those 4 bolts and leaving the clutch on the motor/ flexplate

Thanks sorry if im confuesing people

As shown in my picture, the transmission isn't bolted up anymore(not even in the pic) and the clutch is still mounted on the flexplate. So yes, you can remove the tranny without removing the clutch from the flexplate.

The reason you were having a hard time getting the clutch on last time was because, even though they look like it, the bolt holes are not all on the same axis. 3 of them are, but one is offset a bit differently, so the clutch will only bolt one certain way to the flexplate.

Jack the motor up? You'll need to unbolt the mounts and drop the engine, but just support it with the jack and a block of wood between it and the oil pan.
