I'm getting a whine from somewhere in the rear of the car during acceleration. I recently changed the rear diff fluid to Mobile1 75-90 full synthetic and i noticed it shortly after. I thought it might have leaked, so i dropped the plug and refilled it again. Its still whining though. Any ideas on what else to check? Wheel bearings maybe?

If the noise is during acceleration only, the noise is most likely coming from the rear differential. Wheel bearings can make noise without them having play in them.

Try changing to a different fluid, if that doesnt help you may need to crak open the diff and see if it has broken loose..

I did, i went back to traditional gear lube with no change. Maybe i portrayed it to be louder than it is. It sounds similar to the wally 255 but louder. I doubt it broke loose but something is def whinging.

That's most likely the dif. My Chevelle did the same thing when we didn't break in new gears. Sounded like the fuel pump but louder

I think its your drive shaft and not the diff. Just ironic that it happened at the same time. Its also possible its your trans.

I recently helped a local S2000 owner with the same noise as your describing and he thought it was his trans so we pulled it out and replaced it with a newer/less mileage and the issue remained. You have to be very careful but after playing around and digging we had to jack up his car and secure it and get under the car while it was in motion to source it and sure enough the drive shaft went. It was the last thing we thought the noise sounded like it was coming from. I would highly suggest getting your car on a lift if possible. Hopefully this helps out.

Phones been broke but figured I'd update this. Ended up being my transfer case low on fluid. As much as I swore up and down it was from the rear of car. Didn't realize it till I jacked it up and drove. Weird how sound travels.
