It's the one that slides back and forth in the groove on the alternator bracket, you tighten it down once you set the adjustment bolt, has a threaded hole on one side that the adjstment bolt goes into and a stud comes out on the other side and goes through the groove on the mounting bracket and the top hole on the alternator. I can't for the life of me remember what this piece of hardware is called, everything I have found just says its just a bolt there. Thanks to anybody that can point me in the right direction, or even hook me up with a part number to call the dealer with.

well... i don't know what the bolt is called. but. instead of going to the dealer you can just go to a self serve junkyard and pull one off yourself.. i just went the other day and took two off and showed the guy at the counter and he just gave them to me. granted i did pay 2$ to get in.. but besides that i think it was still a steal.

It's called a "bolt." :p

Seriously, CAPS refers to it as an "alternator bolt." The Mitsubishi part number is M06503296.

:ohdamn: Wow so everybody was right LOL thanks for the part number, and I'm going to see if a junkyard around here has one, or I might just call the dealer and see how much it is; might try napa as well.

I call it a "locking bolt", since that is it's function. Others seem to know exactly what I mean when I used the term.

There is nothing special about that bolt, you could get a similar bolt from a hardware store.
And no, I don't happen to know the bolts dimensions or pitch off hand.

are you sure you guys aren't thinking of the adjustment bolt? because the one I had wasn't a bolt per se it had a threaded hole at one end and almost like a stud coming out the other end that went through the hole on the top of the alternator casing. I have the adjustment bolt.

This is what CAPS shows.

I suppose I should get to working on the 420a more often. I was thinking of the 4g63. :coy:

edit: @my dreamt dsm: The printscreen button. I believe in Windows it copy's the screen to the clipboard.

I may have gotten a little overeager posting what I had above. Looking at it a bit longer and with the picture you provided, neither CAPS nor ASA shows any part number for the adjuster bolt or the bolt in the slot when using a '95 or '96 VIN to look up the two -- which is odd, anyone with information on why that may be? Further (and at least for '97+ models), the lengths of 14799U and 14799S might be mixed up. I'm not super familiar with the 420A and my manuals require a small bit of interpretation with those lengths. If I've got them backwards or if they are incorrect, please let me know.

Hmm that is kind of odd, I got called into work early today so I never got a chance to go out and search for the bolt, maybe I will have an update for you guys tomorrow.

Glad my picture could help you out. You are not going to find that at any hardware store. Dealer only or junkyard item. I bought it new on my last build. Did not cost much though.

The part I ordered was #6504286. Costs about $6.00 or so.

Yea haha thanks I saw the thread before and forgot to save it so I was trying to find it again and finally did, I would also like to thank you for the idea of slotting the bolt holes to allow the bracket to move up or down because my alternator I use for stereo comps is a REALLY tight fit as it is now but I slotted the braket and moved it up some and now it fits alot better, will be calling the dealer tomorrow, thanks a bunch guys! :hellyeah:
