Recently swapped a 92 transmission into my 90tsi having trouble locating shifter assembly and cables for a awd model will a 92 1.8l shifter assembly/cables work.

Not if i recall correctly. The throw is incorrect. it can only me 91/94 cables. must be for a 4g63 car. the 1.8 trans is completely different. Also, did you change the shifter base? This MUST be changed. The difference in throw from the base makes a huge deal also, ive now owned 2 90 cars, both with 91/94 transmissions and have swapped other 90 cars. the base of a 90 has a 'tubular' (my description) arm that goes to the driver side cable. where as the 91/94 has a 'stamped' arm. the difference can be felt when driving. a 90 car has a long throw whereas the 91/94 feels much shorter. it has to be swapped fully to work as intended, otherwise the cable will fall apart at he rubber boot by the bracket on the trans. which also needs to be swapped. the trans bracket on a 90 has about 1.5 inch between cable clips when the 91/94 has about .5 inch. all of these factor into not killing a good transmission prematurely.
