No, the intercooler setup came on the car when I bought it. Thanks for the positive feedback!

820 got some hand-me-down Evo 8 suspension today.

820 got a few upgrades last weekend. I pulled the turbo to install a rebuilt Evo 3 16G. Turns out, the car already had an Evo 3 16G on it. I still installed the rebuilt unit, but at least I have a spare on the shelf now.

I figured I could clean up the area a bit too with the turbo and manifold out of the way.

I also got the Innovate LC-1 installed as well. FYI, if you guys need to replace the sensors, just pick one up from AutoZone. You can pick one up brand new for $50 bucks. I was finding them listed for twice that in various places. The part number is 17014 click

Next, I threw in some Evo 560s and dialed in the MAF. Then, I set up ECMlink boost control with the stock BCS. It's one of the best features built into Link, IMO.

The car is running awesome, and It's a blast to drive. It's super tame compared to 1837, which is nice when you just want to jump in and drive. Next up is to throw in some colder plugs and turn up the boost a tad bit.

Well, a lot has happened with 820 since I last posted. Long story short, I had some issues with compression on cylinder #1, and one day the clutch just quit disengaging. So, pulled the motor and got to work giving 820 the business.
wEAdizYoXWRHdZPZDjkHnBiRAylsqgwzQ-xpfnaQLfXhqxiKgw06YrkPuQQTaAcaL7GPHcyJO4oAqfDD4g=w1218-h685-no.jpg

Separated the trans and confirmed my suspicion as to why the clutch would no longer release.
AFFKwxEsnGeNqm7Na3k2r0SU4JiXM-jXLKS_ir1s7er06cCbiTqqc4VwZlsST24J-K03k2rWsQHtZ02jFM=w1218-h685-no.jpg

Got the motor out, which was covered in the typical 20 years worth of grease, grime, and dirt. Gross.
f7i8aXLl9NaikuECmDkv90LqfjXKrBi-5pQOBfLi7TcWkPtWFORyPmhdU4Xb66D46fjyI5_bhCO5ZONjL4=w1218-h685-no.jpg

So, as I mentioned, I had low compression on cylinder #1. I wasn't sure what the issue was, but I suspected it may be a problem with the head or head gasket, as a wet compression test failed to bump the compression at all. Once I pulled the head, I found a ton of carbon buildup on one of the valves, which effectively kept it from completely closing. I was actually pretty stoked when I found this, since that meant my short block was good to reuse.

The short block looked great. The bores spec'd out good, and the crosshatching was looking nice as well. Aside from the dirt and knock sensor goo, it's mint.

And, here's the reason for the 2G head: Evo 3 intake manifold. The goal for this build is going to be fast spool and tons of low end power. The head has Evo springs and retainers, and ARP manifold hardware.

I've got some more cool updates in store for 820, so stay tuned ;)

Looking good man. My only complaint would be exactly what I told you earlier. It feels like you're just making another 1837. I know you like your red, but I'd like to see you do something different, something to help set it apart from the other one beyond the JDM body parts and the wheels. Oh well, I'll hold my breath that the 3rd one will inspire you to do something crazy, and not just build a 3rd super clean VR4 that makes my 1G look like shit.

Actually, I wanted 820 to look similar to 1837. Twins of sorts, if you will. I'll incorporate subtle differences, but overall I want the 2 cars looking alike at a glance.

The performance aspect is where these cars will be significantly different. 820 will be suited for tons of low end power and torque, with a fast spooling turbo and a very streetable power band. As 1837 keeps getting further and further from being a street car, I'd like to have 820 to fill that void.

I'm sticking by my plan for 1546. That car will be 100% restored back to stock. No upgrades, just restoration.

Very nice build. What paint did you use on your transmission?

I used silver VHT high temp primer and paint on the transmission.

As usual I'm a bit behind the times but if you have an advanced auto near you, if you order online using the promo code TRT30 it's 30% off.

Very clean build.. it seems like your goals with 820 is about what my goals are with my GSX LOL. It's amazing to see what people are capable of with enough time and ambition

Next issue, the power steering rack started pissing fluid everywhere shortly before the clutch decided to shit out. When it rains it pours.

Anyways, I figured out it's easier to just drop the entire front subframe, then pull the sway bar and PS rack, so that's what happened.

Are you going to run any center caps on those wheels, or are you going to clean up the axle nuts like you did with the other white beauty? Either way I know whatever you do, you will make it look clean :hellyeah:

Yep, I'll be running center caps on these. They are pictured in the first photo of the painted wheels at the bottom.

Making progress here and there slowly but surely. I fixed the clearance issue with the cold side IC pipe routing, and got the rest of the system installed. Luckily, all the hard stuff is pretty much done, so it's really just a matter of bolting stuff on and plugging stuff in.

Major stuff left to-do:
-Install the Walbro 255 and rewire
-Bolt in the 5 lug front hubs and reinstall the axles
-Replace fluids in the rear diff, T-case, and trans
-Prime the motor
-Bleed/adjust the clutch
-Bolt up the T-case and exhaust

I did get the tires mounted on the new wheels. As my luck would have it, the tire shop slightly f***ed up the finish on one of the wheels by initially using the wrong cone on the balancer. It's a small blemish, but still pisses me off. So, I'm stuck refinishing the wheel again (now with a tire installed), or stuck dealing with it...Guess which one I'm gonna pick :f-u:

Lastly, crappy low light picture of the new matching MOMO shift knob. My wife picked it out, so I was a bit apprehensive at first, but it actually looks and feels really good!

That sucks on the one wheel, I feel your pain there. Shop did the same to mine after SEVERAL instructions to everyone to not eff-up my fresh paint (even told them to reverse install the tires with bumper pads cuz idgaf bout the inner lip), and they still chipped every single one. Mgr ended up not charging me so that was a small repay.

That's a bummer, the finish was so nice on those wheels :(
