I have a fidanza flywheel that was gonna go on my FWD but I'm getting a 91 GVR4 next week and everythings getting transfered over to that. Whats the difference between the AWD and FWD Fidanza flywheels? they seem to have different part numbers.

AWD flywheels have a smaller diameter to accomodate the output shaft for the transfer case. The flywheel and clutch from your FWD cannot be used.

You are correct in saying that the fylwheel will not work, however the clutch will work.

6 bolt, 7 bolt, awd, & fwd all different flywheels but clutch is the same for all models.

That's confusing? My pressure plate bolts to the rim of my flywheel. It is nearly the sam diameter (give or take a centimeter). If the flywheel is to large in diameter why wouldn't a pressureplate be larger... or by clutch you just mean the clutch disk???

notice how a pressure plate is called a pressure plate and a clutch is called a clutch. they are talking about just the clutch, not the pressure plate

Pressure plate WILL work with it too...Trust me, I just put an AWD clutch and pressure plate to go with my FWD turbo trans and Fidanza flywheel, works superbly.

People People, there is not a difference in actual clutches! I don't know why there is so much confusion here. Take a look into part number, the part numbers are the same. There is no AWD or FWD specific part numbers. Clutches are not 1G/2G specific either. For an example, lets use an ACT 2600 clutch, part number ACT MB1-XTSS. This clutch can be used in any turbo 4G63 1G or 2G FWD or AWD.

Flywheels, on the other hand, are 1G/2G, FWD/AWD, 6/7 bolt specific for the reasons already mentioned.

So if I bought this AWD i'm looking at. I could potentially put my brand new SBR 3500 presureplate and clutch disk from my FWD in it? Just not my ACT streetlite FW, correct?

watch what you say when u refer to a clutch as being just the disc itself... because most people will ALWAYS refer to an entire clutch set as just "the clutch". I've honestly never heard just a disc being referred to as a just a clutch... Besides, it's not good to just replace the friction disc without doing anything else... Unless the pressure plate still is in good condition... you'd still wanna make sure it's smooth so you'd probably wanna machine it, otherwise it won't work as well. then it's barely economical to do that instead of replacing it LOL.

Yes, the flywheels are different, but all 4G63T clutches are the same.

The body of the flywheels are the same size, but the diameter of the ring gear is different. The FWD flywheel's ring gear sticks out about 1/4" farther on each side than the AWD flywheel. Here's a couple pics I took today in my office. (Please excuse the poor quality of photography. All I have here is my cell phone. Defiant would be proud of me. ROFL )

The first pic is of one flywheel stacked on top of the other. The Red is the AWD and the Green is the FWD.

I show part numbers for a replaceable friction surface, but not for the ring gear. Try contacting them direct to order it, or at least get a part number: 440-259-5656.

Wow I did not know AWD and FWD clutches were the same.I have a stage3 clutch masters disk that i thought was only for awd.I guess now I can use that.

I had to look into this since I'm doing my GSTX swap right now and need a flywheel and I only have my fwd Fidanza. I spoke to someone @ Fidanza, they only change the ring gears in house. The price is $50, but the fwd can be changed to awd and awd to fwd. This was just for the archives. :thumb:

EDIT::::Well I talked to Fidanza again and now they say they can't do it. They're at least shipping my flywheel back for free because of the misunderstanding. Had to buy a temporary solution from The Zone. $59.99 with core.
