95 Talon TSi AWD Auto. First of all I've tried the steps posted by other members about grounding pin 1 of the OBD II connector and counting the blinks. I get no blinks. Also Pin 1 on my OBD II port carries a voltage on it of around 3v's sometimes as much as 9 however. It's not a blinking type voltage though it's either 3 or 9 depending on when I've tried this test. The Anti Lock light blinks about 4 times before it goes solid. It goes solid before the car even moves. I was thinking a wheel speed sensor and I just had a wheel bearing die so I was thinking on that wheel but it looked okay when I looked at it. Any tips on this? I've never had ABS problems on any of my vehicles and the haynes manual doesn't have too many tips execpt for pay a shop to pull the code. Obviously it'd have to be a dealer for this code i'm guessing. They'd need a MUT-II to pull it. Using a basic OBD-II puller and DSMLINK to confirm I have a P1400, which is a MDP/MAP sensor so I don't see how that would be related. I've had a bad MDP forever and it never hurt anything so I just left it alone. It doesn't even produce a CEL believe it or not..

Wheel speed sensors have strong chance of going bad with a wheel bearing. Did you remove the sensor and inspect for scoring on the surface?

The brake shop I worked at years ago had an ABS scanner, and would pull the codes for free for people, much as AutoZone/Advance will pull OBD codes for free.

Most brake shops have ABS scanners, and most brake shops also do "free inspections". You could weasel the codes out of them during a free inspection, if they won't give the codes willingly.

Four blinks then solid could be a wheel-speed sensor, but it also could be the main hydraulic unit. (I know that's what you wanted to hear.) And you're right that you need to use a MUT-II to read the code; no "plain" scanner can read your ABS. I never succeeded in using the blinking light method to get a code. I just forked over the $40 for a Mitsu dealer to read it.

Didn't realize generic ABS scanners would not read Mitsu ABS codes. Learn something new every day, I suppose. Mitsubishi was really thinking about the home mechanic when they designed these things.

I dont mean to Hijack the posts but i have the "ABS" light on, on the cluster...should i worry about this even though the breaks work perfectly fine? Personally i hate the abs system on cars. Thanks!

Any tips for checking the wheel speed sensors? I checked all of them and they all seem about the same. Even the bad wheel bearing one seems the same as the rest. I might just buy that one and hope for the best. That little bastard is 82 bucks though.

4G63dsm1- I wouldn't necessarily worry about it, it's not like you NEED abs to brake fine. I just don't like when random things break, it leads to other problems usually. It's not the speed that kills you it's the sudden stop when your brakes stop working and you smash a wall. If you catch my drift.

It's a real pain that not even a Snap-On can read our ABS. You can get a $3000 Genesis, but you can also get a new DSM for this much. ;)

It's not a problem to be driving around with the ABS light on. After a while, if you're like me, you'll open up the dash and pull the bulb, since you know it'll never work correctly again. ;) ;)

DSM's just beg to be gutted to bare bones and built up with basic technology don't they. It's the only car I've ever owned where they tried so hard to strap so much BS technology on it when they should have just stuck with what works. Our TB's are a prime example, friggin ISC/FIAV.

Take a company that really wants to build rally cars. Force them to cooperate with Chrysler. See what you get as a result.

If the thing starts when I turn the key, it's a good day. I cross myself, kneel on a carpet, kill a goat, nod to a wall, ring a gong, burn some incense, and then feed peanuts to the blue guy with six arms. I'm actually a Taoist, but I'm not 100% sure and so I'm worried that, if I stop, the car will, too.
