I am looking to convert my Auto FWD 95 2g to an Auto AWD. I have found all the parts I need except the TCU. The AWD parts are of unknown mileage but look to be in excellent condition.

I have been researching this for a couple of days and have found two threads ( AWD Conversion/Swap Guys Enter Here - Advanced. [Merged 2-07] and gst tcu in an awd? with topics that are close but I would like some clarification on some things.

1. Will my 95 FWD TCU work with any year 2g AWD transmission?
2. Will the shift points be the same?
3. Any upgrades/ mods/ general repairs that I should do to the transmission before I install it, since currently it is on my work bench? I was already thinking of doing a shift kit and an end clutch.

Thanks in advance for any help! I can't wait till I can hear my engine over the noise of my front tires :hellyeah:

From another thread I found a part number list.

Ok got my answer over in ECMTuning's forum, there are some serious Auto guys over there LOL

The TCU will fit and will connect to the connectors fine, the electronics are the same.

But the Gear ratio between the FWD and AWD are different and will cause the transmission to go into limp mode. They have different programming.

The different gear ratios is confermed over on VFAQ

Hope this helps someone in the future

As far as 1g TCUs go, if it will plug in, it will work..The rpms that it will shift at will be a little different, hardly noticeable unless a 1.8 tcu is used ..
I can't speak for a 2g, but don't see why it would be any different..

Ya, I talked to a few transmission shops lately, and some are saying that other than the shift points being different, it will work.

So I will let people know when I do it myself. If someone has first hand experience, let me know.

Anyone know exactly what happens when a 2g fwd tcu in a 2g awd auto car will do?

Any update on using a 2g fwd tcu on an awd trans?
