So I have a unique problem. I've read through many threads here but most are only regarding BB turbos and non MHI turbos.

My feed line was stripped clean from the head.

I heli'coiled it which holds but even with new copper washers it leaks. It leaks especially bad under positive pressure and soaks the center catridge of my turbo (runs down the hardline). I don't mind a small leak but this is in the area of fire harzard.

Currently I am still running the water cooled OFH. I have a 1g OFH with a cooler sitting in my garage that I haven't had time to get around.

I'm down to tap my current OFH or the Air Cooled OFH, I just don't want to kill my turbo.

Any suggestions?

Or source it from the oil filter housing and plug up the head hole.

Not the best idea. You get too much oil pressure from the filter housing.

Lots of good info here:http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tur...l-feed-supply-locations-all-turbo-brands.html

I have sourced all of my mhi turbos from the housing and never had any issues. Most kits for 2gs go to the housing.POrt the pressure relief and you dont have any issues.Real simple. And I read that link a while ago, if you noticed, it was pretty much split between head/housing for the mhi turbos.I like my oil goin to the turbo to be squeeky clean and cool so the housing will be my source. And from the circumstance of the op, i think he should to.
Oh and I have a restricter.

I read that link before I posted this thread, it wasn't very helpful.

What size restrictor and line are you running from your OFH?

The restrictor in the 1G line from the head is in the turbo end of the line.

What I'd do if I were in that situation is cut the 1G line (which is 1/4" steel tube), flare the end of it to fit a -4AN union, and join it to a braided steel line from the filter housing using a double-male -4AN fitting:

This way you'd get the restrictor fitting and the banjo fitting all in one piece, along with the conveniece of the braided steel line.

I guess I should have worded all this differently.

The line kit looks solid, it's oil restriction that's got me worried, I really dont feel like killing my e316g.

If you're running your oil feed from the filter housing it won't be a problem, you won't kill your 16g from oil starvation at all, it's the best place to get your turbo's oil feed from.
I have a known healthy t25 that i just started running for the past few 3-4 months and now the turbo is going bad out of nowhere. It never had shaftplay or any of that sort, and now it's spitting oil out of the turbo outlet.
I do realize this is a garrett piece and not a mitsu turbo, but my point is it's such a small turbo and probably from too much oil pressure it's going bad, but for a 16g, i'm sure it could use the pressure as is without porting the relief hole or anything of the sort, leave it the way it is, you will be just fine.

Every single mhi turbo I've ever sourced fromt he housing (for a brief time until I changed tot he head) smoked like he!!. That includes the brand new small 16g and td05h 18g from FP. ;) Just stating this to clerify that you still RUN THE RISK. No offense to you at all.

Mitsu designed the housing that way for a reason...for all OE turbos that came on the 4G63 the OFH is the best place. There was a lot of science done to make that the preferred spot for oil on the MHI turbos when run with OE parts. When you change the motor's characteristics for more bore, more stroke, different CR, etc. one could believe that a new/better spot for oil might be off the head but the OFH has the feed port there for a reason...when you stray from OE standards you will need to change the setup to cater to the new demands in oil pressure/feed/return etc...

I appreciate all the replies.

I guess I need to know what restrictor to get to err on the side of caution coming from the OFH.

Then why did mitsu make 2gs come stock like that?
Because T25's are completely different internally, and have different oil pressure and volume requirements than MHI turbos.

Look at a factory Evo VIII or IX (which uses a MHI 16G turbo) and see where the oil supply is.

AMEN to that ! Couldn't have said it better.
Mitsubishi engineers designed the oil feed the way they did for a reason, not for the hell of it.

They ran it from the filter housing on 2G's only because the pressure requirements for the Garrett turbocharger that 2G's use is completely different than the TD05H turbos on 1Gs and Evos.

The two ports on the oil filter housing are arguably in place (and capped) for an external oil cooler. Hell the two ports are even present on the non-turbo 4G63 filter housing.

Thanks you Justin.

As he stated above we are talking about 2 different turbo families. If the OFH is the best place for MHI turbo's then why do all 1g's feed from the head? And Evo's?

I appreciate the discussion this has brought about but I need to get up and running :D

What size restrictor do I need to get to be safe from the OFH?

I am going evo3 16g in a few weeks, so you are saying if i feed my turbo from my OFH as well my turbo will run a chance of a shorter lifespan ?

Right. It does not mean you will blow your turbo, just that there is better chance of it happening if you feed from the OFH.

Interesting points.I never knew that about the t25/garrett thing.Im gonna keep mine from the housing since i have been running it like that for almost 3 years, but my next turbo will be from the head.
