Hey guys so I got rid of my jeep and my mustang and got a 1990 talon tsi awd, which I figure has the good qualities of each and better gas mileage than both! I must say I am falling in love with this car quite fast. The way the boost puts me in the seat is magical. It's got 160k but runs pretty well. I plan on taking great care of it and love the idea of having an 11 second car on a budget. All it has right now is an evo3 16 g turbo. A 3" cat back system unknown brand. And ECMtuning? Not sure how that works so could someone fill me in? Also the idle seems to surge a bit sometimes from like 8k to 12 k rpms when I hit the clutch and cruise in neutral, any idea what that could be would be awesome. I'm surprisingly excited to join this dsm world. Thanks guys!

Welcome! Unsure on your idle problem. Cold be a number of things. If you have ecmlink that may be quite helpful in finding out. Try searching and you will find loads if information on this site.

Welcome! That's a really nice car you have there! , I'm not sure what your problem is with the surge, if you could, please elaborate, and so far as the ECMtuning, it is called ecm(or dsm) link, is a tuning system, in which ecmllink sockets your motherboard in your ecu, and replaces your EPROM (electronically programmable read only memory) with an EEPROM(electronically erasable and programable read only memory)chip, which has firmware on it to tune your ecu with a laptop to change settings for air fuel ratios, and other aspects of your engines runtime.

Wow thanks for the quick replies guys. I guess I chose the right forum! So with the ECM link ill be able to save like a leaner setting for cruising and richer for the track? And it's just a steady fluctuation in rpms. Like a perfect sine wave. Ill be picking up a manual soon so I can troubleshoot it further. Just didn't know if it was supposed to be like that LOL. Ill definitely look into the ECM tuning more and pick up whatever I need for it. Thanks for the compliments guys! I can't resist to look at it when I'm walking away from it. Has a few minor rust spots on the surface. I don't like the tail lights so I will most likely go back to stock. And my tires are too small for the wheel wells :hellyeah:

You have a great start off DSM for just getting into them. AWDs are the best. Live the rims but the tires could have more sidewalls. Welcome to your new lifestyle. Now that you have 1 your never want anything else. Boost is very addictive, and very much a panny dropper. Lmao. Good luck with the car bud.
