I've wanted a DSM since I was 19. I tried to buy one at that point but my dad went with me on the test drive and told me I would kill myself with the car so I couldn't buy it. Unfortunately, he was temporarily loaning me the money so I couldn't argue.

I'm 27 now. My main car is a '89 Prelude 2.0 Si 4WS that I've owned for 6 years. The car is a blast to drive with the 5-speed. I originally bought it as a winter car when I owned my '99 Camaro Z28 but I ended up selling the Camaro two years later when I moved to FL because it was costing me too much money. My wife and I moved from FL to CT last July. I decided I wanted a spare car because if something breaks on the Prelude, I still need to be able to get around. It was the perfect time to pick up a DSM.

I looked around on Craigslist for a couple weeks and finally found one for sale near Boston, MA. Turns out it's a guy named Bruce Kwartler who spends time buying broken DSMs, puts them back together, and resells them. He was selling a '90 Talon TSi AWD so I got my buddy and his wife to come by for the weekend and we all drove out there to check it out.

I came home with it for $2600. It has a rebuilt head, new timing belt, tensioners, full 3" exhaust from the downpipe back, rear Megan strut bar, 2G wheels, boost gauge, MBC, K&N, and new fluids all around. It doesn't have A/C (compressor is still mounted) or P/S. He did give me a P/S setup he had lying around though. I believe I just need a reservoir and to figure out if there's anything wrong with the rack.

It has its quirks though. It's pretty rough around the edges. He replaced the hood/headlight covers and then spray painted the hood, headlight covers, and fenders but it matches surprisingly well. It had a seized driver's and hatch lock that I repaired (as seen here), the stock radio didn't work (replaced it with a cheap Sony), the passenger window wouldn't lower on the driver's side (cleaned the contacts, working again), the power seat belts don't move, the headlights don't raise or lower if they're turned on (works fine if the lights are off), it needs a clutch (slips in 4th and 5th if I floor it), and the 2nd/3rd syncros are worn.

We're moving in to a new house the first week of May so I'm just fixing little things on the car until then. Once I have it in the new garage, I'm going to pull the trans to get it rebuilt and replace the clutch. Then, I can drive it like it's meant to be driven.
