What's up, I'm Joe. 18 years young, south jersey. Picked up my first DSM about a month ago, a Cayenne Red Pearl 99 Eclipse Spyder GS. Oh, and it's automatic.
Currently I'm a senior in vocational school for construction, mainly carpentry. I have a job interview tomorrow and I'm getting a call by wednesday about another job. The sooner I'm employed, the sooner the fun starts! Although I plan on taking night classes for a second trade. I haven't decided if I want to take an auto tech class, or something like electrical. Carpentry is hard, dirty labor. I don't mind the work, and honestly, I'm pretty good at what I do. Although, I'm also pretty experienced in electrical and I love working on cars, too. I haven't really decided on what I wanna do in life, although I know carpentry is always something I'll be able to fall back on.
I bought the mitsu for $2917. I had more with me, but tried getting a deal, and the guy was asking $3500. My friend said he'd give him his last $17 on top of my "last" $2900, and that ass actually took it. Who takes someone's last $17!? Shitty people these days..
So I bought the car with two bad lower control arms, a coolant leak from the water pipe O-ring that was RTV'd and seeped through, a leaky top (bastard lied and said it didn't leak), the turn signals didn't work, and a bunch of interior pieces are cracked/broken. Oh, and bad brakes/rotors, a condesation-filled headlight, and the motor for the antenna failed. Not as bad as it sounds, most of this stuff was really easy.
The turn signals ended up just being a fuse in the wrong spot. Not sure what spot they were in or what was meant to be there but nothing else is non-working so I'll worry about it later. The lower control arms I replaced with the help of a friend who owns a VR4. the leaky top is because the latches are loose.. Still have yet to solve that problem. The coolant leak will be taken care of saturday- I have a new O-ring but I may just RTV it. As far as the cracked/poor quality interior, junk yard hunting!
I plan on going turbo soon. I don't really have a set power goal so far, but based off of everything I read, the 14b seems like the best for my needs. Something that'll give me more power with quick spool time and no turbo lag. I'll be using mostly OEM parts and an SMIC. If I choose to get a bigger turbo later on, I'll be converting to an FMIC. I'm not worried about that, for now, though. There's a starion with a near-perfect turbo sitting in a local junk yard, I know they're smaller but hey- it could be a temporary start!
Currently the car is sitting on 17x7 +35 MB Weapons wrapped in 215/40/zr17 Falken Ziex SE512s. I'm looking to trade these locally for some wider 18s, but no such luck so far. This area is mostly mustangs, at least, who I know.
I come from a Honda Prelude, so the lower redline is definitely a change. So far I like the scene, Prelude owners are all "OEM OR DIE" so seeing people who are open to different ideas is nice for a change. Plus, I dig function>form so this place suits me well haha.
