I was messing around last might trying to find some things out about the a-spec points system, and this is what I've found out so far about it, from what I can see anyway:
1. A-spec is a direct value for how hard the cpu thinks the race is for you to win, ranging from 1-200, 200 being impossible. That is why there is the "Best A-spec points" display in the menu for each race. A-spec points aren't really worth anything other than bragging rights. I still like it though since it gives another challenge in the game. Some people say it makes the opponent driver AI better, but I haven't noticed that.
2. The point value is based on the overall average of how good the other 5 cars are. I found this out by consistantly getting beat by the 500+HP Buick Special with only 10 A-spec points available in the classic car cup. This was because the other 5 cars were so weak. So the closer the field the better you chances of winning and getting higher A-spec points. Some races are closer than others as I'm sure will notice.
3. *Now here's my real discovery*. The point system is based on power-to-weight and nothing else. All suspension mods and drivetrain mods didn't change the A-spec points and neither does nitrous. That being said you can fully tune your cars suspension and drivetrain, and beat the other cars while getting alot of A-spec points. I was getting 200 A-spec points easily by using a '95 Skyline N1 with 341HP plus nitrous, suspension in the Turbo Car Cup. Also, if you winning races too easily and want more points you can add ballast weight to in the settings menu. Just something to think about if you're trying to get your A-spec points up.
