eBay HKS SSQV not closing fast enough

So, I decided to go on the highway to do some short pulls. While I am merging, I feel a loss of power going into third and a high pitched whistle. Pretty much sounds exactly like a ssqv dumping air, but doesn't stop. When I take a look at the log, I see link recorded 27 psi in first and second, but then going into third, It logged only 16 psi. (This is on my HX35)

After hearing the sound for a second time, I realized that it must have been my BOV, because when I just drive normally or go into boost without beating on the thing, it doesn't make that sound.

Just wanted to give a heads up for anyone looking at buying a eBay HKS SSQV.

The only way to fix this is to drill a hole in the back of the bov and tap it run a bolt to put pressure on the spring. Its a crapy fix but it will get you buy for a while.

I was thinking about putting in a wastegate spring, but I'll probably just go easy on it until I pick up a real ssqv.

If you put a waste gate spring in there I would almost bet it would never open that spring is not that strong on a bov.

Possibly. I've never opened a BOV before. I'll wait it out until I can afford one. Might just save up for the single valve SSQV (not the regular ssqv).

You can't afford a regular old used blow off valve? If you can afford to put gas in your car and change the oil, you can afford a genuine blow off valve.

That saying goes the other way around. Maintenance, gas and bills come first.

Try a bigger spring. I have a blitz bov, and the spring is pretty tough. I would also make sure the throttle blade opens all the way, because somehow it holds 27 psi in first and second gear. Maybe the added airflow causes a pressure drop across the throttle blade.

The pressure drop is what opens the BOV.

You really need to just get a real one man, they are not expensive used at all. (you have a holset setup, and were trying to use an ebay BOV...)

Possibly. I'll first try inserting a bigger spring and making the vacuum line as short as possible, then later on I'll pick up a real one. With my hp goals for next year, I'm stuck getting the more expensive version of the SSQV.

I'm not one to usually cheap out, but wanted to see how the eBay bov's held up.

FWIW, I just had to replace my eBay HKS SSQV v3 knockoff a few days ago for failing (I think the plunger piece is to blame, dunno). I kept getting compressor surge, so I swapped it with an ebay knockoff RFL and now my turbo spools quicker and the surge is gone...so I would say those genuine SSQV copies have a life of about 5-8k, 10k if your lucky...but price-wise it ain't bad.

For their $50 price, they really are a good deal. I would imagine using one with a t-25, 14b or a 16g would be perfectly fine.
