Hey all, I haven't posted here in years since I sold my 91 laser (sad day :( ), but anyways im looking at purchasing the same exact car I owned 9 years ago LOL and they have installed a T4 turbo in it but there are some issues.

When accelerating and boost starts to generate (from the stock boost gauge its getting to around 5 psi) the car just cuts out and then i get smoke from the back, smells like oil. If I keep trying to accelerate it just gets worse and doesn't seem to generate any more boost (scared to keep accelerating as well, its that bad). From some other post I suspect valve seals or turbo seals but im not sure, been out of the game for way to long!

The owner of the car said that his mechanic thinks its the oil line that runs from the valve cover area to the turbo. He suspects there's too much oil pressure and its causing it to leak.

Under light acceleration and not generating anymore than a couple psi it seems to run smoothly but anymore than that and it bogs down and smokes.

Hope I've provided enough details. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Ok so I took some pictures this morning, hope it helps.

if its black smoke thats a furl related issue my man how ever the big question is do u have an accuate oil pressure gauge? I have the BSE done and i max out at like 88psi oil pressure wise but im also running an hx40 and she is tapped from the OFH. Hit me back with more info and maybe we can shake this down together.

I see a China T3 turbo. Not a T4. My guess with the gauge details without seeing a video of it running is a dead turbo. Not all that uncommon for a knock off turbo. That is your worst case.

Best case is the car is badly in need of a tune. The breather hose to the intake is not a big deal. It is set up the exact same way from the factory.

Thanks for the replies guys. Ive decided not to buy the car after explaining issues to the owner and hes not going to budge on the price ($2500) or get the problems fixed any time soon it so i think hes going to be stuck with the car for a while.... Still on the prowl for a dsm though so i might be back. Thanks again.

One a side note:

This car used to have all the mods listed in my profile and obviously from the engine pics it doesnt have any of those parts anymore other than the exhaust... Even the valve cover isnt what i had on there because i had removed it and custom painted it so all that worried me as well, not sure if another engine was put in or what. Oh well, brought back memories from my teenage years LOL
