So I took my big 16g turbo apart today and found that the fins on the exhaust turbine were all chewed up. My question is, how much performance will be lost due to this? I really don't have the money to be buying a brand new shaft (like all broke DSMers). If it will be an extreme loss, I guess I have no choice. Also, what shafts will fit? Can I find a good used 14b and use that shaft? Are they the same? If not, where can I get a new shaft? I tried Forced Performance, but the turbo parts page will not load. Thanks!

That will likely be severely out of balance and will destroy more than just the turbine wheel if you run it like that. Not to mention the performance loss.

You can use the wheel out of a 14b just fine.

I figured as much. Where can I get a new shaft if I decide to get a new one? I know Forced Performance will have them, but their site is not working on those pages. How much will a new one run?
Otherwise, what other turbos can I steal the shaft from? The t-25's the same as well?

FP's site is working fine for me. It shows $237 for a TDO5H turbine wheel.

The t25 is a garrett turbo, completely different.
The 14b would be your best option given the availability of the turbo, but you could use one from any turbo with a TDO5H turbine wheel.

You might contact member : jusmx141 on here. He rebuilds MHI turbos and might be able to hook you up with a TW.

Yea, I have seen his posts before, and think he has commented on another question of mine about the same turbo. He was the one that told me that my turbo had a 15* clip and that I should rebuild it due to some oil on the exhaust turbine. But I messaged him and hope he has something for me. I only have a week till I go back to school, then I will not have my machine shop access. (My g/f's dad owns one...)

Let me know if anyone knows where I can get a good used shaft...

I've got a turbine wheel that suffered the same fate (something went through the hot side), not quite as much damage, but it's still very evident. Unfortunately, I'm running a BB CHRA, so it can't be rebuilt. FP told me to just run it until it dies. I found the damage in Oct. 06 and the turbo is still on the car. i've put at least 100 passes on the car since the damage was found. Car never lost a bit of performance, and still not a bit of shaft play in it. YMMV

Well, lucky for me, mine can be rebuilt and I found a brand new shaft for only $80. The exhaust side housing is at the welders right now to see if it is salvagable. (Few small cracks). Then it will be put all back together and hopefully put down some good power.
