Just was wondering how many of you guys running big turbo's are still on the stock fans. I just ordered a FP3052 and was wondering if I would need some slim lines, and how much room I would have. So for any of you running a FP3052 or bigger, are you still on the stock fans/ can you use the stock fans while running this set up??? Ive heard different things, just trying to get some hard evidence here. I really dont wanna be mid-way through a turbo install and realise that its not gonna fit LOL...

Thanks:dsm::talon::laser:

I'm running a T3 Holset HX35 with the stock fans, barely though. The driver's side fan's frame needed some trimming. Did I mention I didn't have to dent the water pipe at all either :)

I have a 35r on a 6 bolt in my 2g all i had to do was grind at my waterpipe, where the turbo coolant feed line is, or maybe its return, but any way, I dint need to replace my pass side fan but i did with a slim line it looks better, gives you more room, and dosent cost that much. my drivers side fan had no room i couldnt even get a slimline between my turbo and rad.

I dont have a big turbo but I have an external wastegate that required me to take off the driver side fan. Car stays at about 203 so in the summer i might need to do another one Im not sure yet though.

I'm only using a t04e compressor housing. The passenger fan didn't fit, it hit the internal gate and intercooler and i/c pipes. The way I have them routed. I had a stock fan on the drivers side that fit up until I changed to a dumped o2 housing. Now I've removed both only have one spal, but need a second. Water pipe needed to be dented a tad bit as well.

even if you can make stock fans fit, if its a tight fit its not worth doing, at least not for long term, cause our stock fans do not have very good heat resistance and will melt very easly without considerable heat sheilding of some kind.

iv seen relatively small turbos that have an inch+ of clearance between the turbo and fan melt stock fans like cheese on a hot plate over a little time without heat sheilding. from how much room my friends 2g has in that area with a mitsu flanged 30r variant i think it will be real tight if it fits.
even if you can make it fit, id completly expect you to see the fans starting to melt the first few times the turbo gets real hot. and once you melt 3+ blades off the fan it doesnt do much in the way of cooling your car anymore.

A member on Dsmlink forums has a 42r on his 2g with stock fans. He had to trim them a little bit. The exhaust manifold is another part that is going to determine if you can use the stock fans or not.

FP3052 with stock rad & stock fans will fit fine, if your running their external dumped O2 housing. You can position the Tial so the dump clears the AC fan, without an issue. If you went with their recirculated O2 housing, you probably won't clear the AC fan because of its routing.

We recently pulled the a/c condenser out of my buddy's 2G and went with a dual 12" pusher fan setup where the condenser used to be. We wired up the fans to work with the stock temp sender or override to a toggle under the dash for whenever he's sitting in the lanes at the strip. It cleaned up the engine bay ALOT and it really seems as if the car cools down quicker than it did with the stock fans.

I was over heating with a FMIC and a t3/t04e hybrid that made me pull the stock fans and go to slim lines. The slim lines over the years wore holes in my radiator. And from day one of having them, anytime it was hot out, i was overheating if i had the A/C on.

I've since routed my IC pipes differently and got the stock fans back in. It's not been hot outside yet, but I'm noticing way lower coolant temps with the main large fan back in and the small secondary still in place as well.

The stock fans will fit if you're thinking carefully the day you build or buy IC pipes.

EDIT: i ran my IC pipe up and towards the pass side of the car, i did have to trim the corner of the fan frame right where the 90* elbow goes on the compressor housing to connect the IC pipes

I'd just put slim line fans in. They have a higher CFM and don't melt like the stck fans because there is more clearance. I cannot begin to tell you how many stck fans I have melted.

As far as I know, slimfans are not as efficient as OEM fans in terms of cooling. They're only good for those with space/clearence issues.
