yesturday I was cruising when i decided to hit a little more gas and suddenly NO spool sound. well i stopped and cheked for blown IC hoses. nothing. in the end the gt35r wheel doesnt spin. it is stuck i dont know to what. but the wheel is not damaged, not bent, it looks like the whole shaft moved a little to the exhaust side of the turbo. there were no symptoms before this, the turbo had no shaft play it is always turbo timed.

anyone ever had this happen? with a gt35r?

i was thinking maybe it has a thrust bearing like non ballbearing turbos. and it went out.

what do you guys think.?

sad to say that you now own a $1300 paper weight.

Only thing you can really do is take the turbo apart and inspect it so you can prevent this from happening again.

how long have you had the turbo? did you buy from a place that offers a warranty?

i had it for a little more than a year. no warranty

im going to get a new one. were is the best place to get the oil supply from? the head or oil filter housing?

and this time for sure ill put an oil filter in the oil feed line.

The only time that i have seen a turbo stuck was when the exhaust housing cracked and jammed up the wheel so it couldnt spin anymore. But dont feel to bad I just made 35r a paper weight about a month ago also :notgood:

from a local speed shop. why? im convinced failure was because of incorrect installation. a mistake that costed me a $1,450 paper weight ja!

next time ill make sure to connect the oil filter with restrictor and water cooling lines. :thumb:

are these turbos known to be unreliable?

No they are great turbos:thumb: I think they are the best Street/Strip turbo you can buy. My problem was due to a 3rd gear pull to 8500 and going back into 2nd and fully letting off the clutch. Snapped two valves and tore up the exhaust wheel

This is kind of off topic but I have a t4 .68ar turbine housing. Can I get a gt35r without a turbine housing and just use mine.

Unfortunately those are not interchangeable due to the tolerances of the turbine wheel used as well as the diameter of the turbine side of the cartridge is different.

My sorry for your loss on the GT35R. That's the one drawback about the BB CHRAs. Can't be rebuilt, and it doesn't matter whose fault it is.

I have sent two turbos back that where working fine at about 9 months old. In each case I got a new turbo back.;) Most people can't afford to have their car down for 1 to 2 months, but it is worth it
