Hey everyone, I was lookin at the Tial 38mm wastegate from Extreme PSI. When you order, it asks to choose your current boost level (im guessing thats what its askin for when it lists bars in incriments of .1 on the drop list). How would I go about upgrading the wastegate later if I decide to increase boost, or do I even need to?? I've been reading a lot about wastegates, but haven't really found an aswer to that question... any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, what's the difference between the 38 and the 41 or 44mm (besides the size obviously). Bigger wastegate size is for running more boost or what?

Also, I'd like to setup the external dump to the bumper... I know how to install it once the wastegate is on, but do I need to purchase anything besides the external gate and the dump pipe??

What they are asking is what spring do you want to be included when you purchase the wastegate. When I got mine I just got a standard 1 bar spring. If you wanted to up the boost later on directly at the wastegate you can order new springs and install them in the wastegate. Hope that helped

yeah that pretty much answers the question... is it easy to swap springs out?? i've never seen an external gate in person, much less messed around with one. doesn't look like it should be too difficult from the pictures though right?

You pop the top of the wastegate off and just replace or add springs I think extremepsi sells new springs for like 20 bucks or something. They are color coded and tell you what one to get or add to get your desired boost level.:thumb:

awesome. now i still have the stock wastegate on and all that... is the tial the only thing i need to external dump? i see a lot of people talking about o2 housings, but i'm new to that and don't really know what the deal is with it. I wanna ditch the stock wastegate setup, and just have the external on there with whatever attachments i need to make it work. i didnt see a tech write-up on this or anything, but maybe i just passed over it... anyplace i can look to get instructions on a removal of the stock unit and installation of the new one?

What turbo are you running...

If you want to run the external wastegate at the manifold. You will have to get either a stock manifold tapped for the wastegate. Or get a manifold already tapped for one. I know slowboy has there new cast manifold back in stock this is the one I had and I loved it. From there you have to take off your stock wastegate and get the flapper on the turbo welded shut... hope that helps

i have the greddy 18g turbo kit on there... will that work with the stock manifold??? if not im gonna have to put this project on hold, i dont have the cash lyin around for a new manifold and wastegate and all.

ive still got the stock manifold, stock wastegate... also, how much of a pain in the ass is it to get the turbo flapper welded shut? im guessing it has to be taken off to do so, im probably gonna have to take it to the shop to do that :( thats more cash out of pocket...

Yes you will have to take the turbo off and bring it to someone who can weld it... Unless you feel confident in trying it yourself. You cannot use a stock manifold unless you modify it and have it tapped for a external wastegate. Here is a link to the slowboy manifold. http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=1891& You can see on that manifold where it would be drilled for the use of a tial 38mm wastegate. Do you have an reason why you want to run an external wastegate with that turbo?

none in particular, just ready to do something fun on the car... been reading a lot about the external dumps for the past month or so and i love the sound, its gotten to the point where im ready to give in and spend the cash to do what it takes to get a gate on there!

that manifold sounds and looks great though... plus its only 300, or 500 with the wastegate?? i havent found the wastegate for less than 275, so it might be worth it to just swap out the manifold

Yea easiest way is to grab a manifold like the link I showed you earlier. and get your flapper welded shut.

Bringing this post back. I am installing my SBR manifold and external waste-gate over the next few days and i am also wondering this.. On the "dump" side of the waste-gate there is a flange with 2 holes but what exactly are you supposed to hold the 1 1/2 inch tube with to the WG?

Any help is always great. Thanks

I know it's an old thread but i also have a sbr mani and about to pick up a 38mm tial. Did you have any fitment issues with the wastegate?
