OK I got my brand new EVO III 16g from turbochargers.com. So I got it and it came with a little bit of shaft play, I just guessed that it was oil clearance so I didnt really stress about it. So right after I checked that not even spinning the shaft I put ouil in ti to pre lube it before it goes in. Well long story short I did the usuall 34mm flapper ported the hell out of the turbo and put it in along with a 2g manfiold and a punishment external dump o2 housing. I check the shaft play everyonce and a while to see if its changed and it just seems a little more than my 14b with 20,000 miles on a rebuild. I was thinking maybe the bearing were made a little out of clearance and thats why it has shaft play??

After I turned the motor on and let the oil run thorugh the turbo it tightens up but if i try to wiggle to shaft up and down the shaft play comes back, I dont know if the oil clearance is suppose to be this much. I run a ss oil feed out of the oil filter housing btw. I dont know if this is something I should worry about or not. I mean the only reason i got this turbo over a 50 trim was because its said to last longer and be more reliable, but im kinda shaken on this. Let me know what you guys think.

I think what your experiencing is normal. They do come with side to side play & you said it tightens up when run, which it should. I wouldn't start to worry unless the comp wheel starts to contact the housing, and stop playing with your shaft so much ROFL (couldn't resist)
