First off, I would like to say I searched for a few days, Reading old and new threads, Googled pages etc. I am very confused and now have a major headach as I am stuck on what to do. There are so many turbo's out there, It really is hard to pick just one particular turbo, The going to picking the vendor to drop all the money with. I just do not know where to begin.
Before I begin listing my mods, I would like to say that the car has all the routine maintanace done including a new head/heagasket/sidecover/ etc.

My car/mods:

1995 gst

6bolt swap
new head (Exhaust side gasket matched)
FMIC w/ short route piping
act 2100
fidenza flywheel
2 1/2" o2 housing
3" o2 housing back exhaust
walbro 255lph fuel pump
ported 2g manifold
aeromotive afpr
Fic 850cc injector
Apex'i Safc
eprom with dsmchips chip with andymoraitis' help on all the good stuff to get.
hard intake pipe

I aso have the intake manifold off the car as I was looking to purchase a SMIM and would like to drop in 272's in the next month or so.. So please keep that in mind.

I'm pretty sure i got the more important stuff down, The obviously mods as in a boost gauge etc I did not list because I would think the people reading this would know that I already have that stuff..

As for my goals? Well, To be honest i'm not really sure. The car is a street driven car and see 94pump gas and will occasionaly see c16 when I feel like spending the money on it. I'm looking to make over 350whp as a definate and do not really want to get a 16g, That is for sure. I was looking at bigger turbo's, Internally gated but there are so many on so many different sites that I can not really decide. I'm not asking you to pick a turbo for me, I'm simply asking for " good advice". I do not need to hear anyone flaming/bashing me in this thread as I see no reason for it. I also don't want the whole thread flooded with the new slogan " a 50 trim seems right for you" and that is all the post says! Now, I know there is also alot of these threads showing up, And alot that has been outdated already. I read MOST all of them already, So do not compare this thread as just another I don't know what turbo to choose thread.

Thanks alot.

A 50-trim seems right for you :p

Nah, any 49lbs/min compressor side will provide enough flow for 350fwhp on pump gas, espeically with a SMIM/cams, while maintaining decent spool. Even though 50-trims are the flavor of the month, it does seem to match up to your wants. If you're against them, a 20G will also provide similar power.

I'd go external gate, just because I've never had or seen good experiences with internal gates on a turbo that flow anything. My AGP gate blew open at 20-21 PSI, so I switched to a TiAL 38mm.

If you're looking for more power in the future, a 60-1 will flow 60 lbs/min, and variations have went 9's. Expect more lag, but nothing so horrible it would regulate the car to track-only use. A 60-1 / T31 setup should spool nicely, and provide lots of power if you're looking towards that route.

Edit : Here's PTE's SCM line of turbos. Might help in your decision.

I'm not against' the ''50 trim'' it just seems like everyone gives that one line sentance anymore and then don't contribute as to why they think it's a good choice. I hate when turbo time always comes around on my cars, Because there are so many options. I don't mind if full boost comes on around 4000rpms, Just nothing insanly higher then 4k! I've had turbo's that lag so that is not a problem, I don't complain about the lag like everyone else. I would really like to actually come closer to the 400whp range of things, Although i'm not sure how hard it is going to be. I have a decent amount of mods, I just don't know if it will be enough. I guess it comes down to two things now, Which are: tuning and what turbo I choose.

you could go with a internally gated gt30r. there's a guy that made 400fwhp on pump with that turbo on a stock bottom end. spool is under 4k rpm too on the ball bearing one. im with you on the whole not jumping on the 50trim bandwagon

^^^ i agree
i have heard nothing but good things about this turbo as a matter of fact i heard good things about all the GT series turbo's
i think your goal of 400whp is attainable with what mods you have.
:thumb: good luck

I actually had the gt30r saved under my favorites. It would be $1,411 before shipping and before getting the oil lines though. I know i'll probably be paying over $1,000 for the turbo, But I just don't want to really grasp the concept yet for about another week. I'm definatly getting one though as I have no turbo on my car now. This turbo was on slowboy's website. Are there any other sites with better pricing or options close to the 30r that will come close to my goal of 400whp?
Also, The gt30r is a ''direct bolt on'' correct? I mean, As in the flange for the manifold? It does not say if I need a new manifold or not either.

Thanks alot for all of the help so far.

As far as I know, the Gt30r is a direct bolt on, meaning whatever Mitsu manifold your running, you can keep.

For what you're looking to do, I'd go with the FP Green and never look back. My local DSM shop praises this turbo, and if I had the money, I would have bolted this bad boy up to my setup. Amazing efficency, bolt on mitsu housing, internal gate (if you want that), and lots of power. It's supposed to spool by around 3,500 RPM depending on your setup. I'm really surprised more people don't recommend this turbo. This is a GREAT street turbo.

+1. Probably the exact route I'm going. Perfect spool time for what I'm looking for and hell it's an FP turbo, you can't go wrong.

I don't want to booger up his thread, although this could be useful to him, but by looking at the Green, it shows they offer the Internal Wastegate at no extra cost, is that true? I don't see a +100 or +125 so I am assuming it's within the cost of the 1299 itself?

I say go 50 trim too. HAHAHAHALOL ! But not because of the obvious. Yes a 50-trim wheel will flow what you want. But remember that the hot side has much more to do with spool than the conpressor. I know that you know that you should not base your decision on spool characteristics heavily on the compressor diameter, weight, flow, housing size. The turbine wheel and hotside a/r number is much more important. But I do say that a 50 trim compressor wheel is ideal here. as you're wanting more than 350 hp but "not sure" how much more. The high efficiency of the 50-trim wheel lends to its veratility. That is its true advantage, IMHO. You can run stock cams and 20 psi and still be over 75% efficient or run 30 psi and 272s/FP2s and look at +70% efficiency. It is incredibly versatile. Your hotside is your choice. What is streetable is up to you. And that is a hotside choice, IMHO. Overall VE may not be worth a 4500 rpm spool. But anything w/ a 50-trim compressor wheel should satisfy you. . . .

Well, here is my added little something on the 50 trim turbo. For starters, I have one, and have been running with it for maybe two years now. Not only has my turbo remained in tip top shape, but I just had a dyno run on it roughly 12 days ago. A very weak 12 psi(which is totally NOT in this turbo's efficiency range) netted me (WITH good tuning) 296.8 whp. Take that for what it's worth when you think about the ability of a 50 trim(with a good amount of mods and good tuning) :dsm:

Also, I must add that I have a conventional 50 trim turbo, not BB.

I would suggest the FP 3052 (flows a little more than most 50s by a few lbs). Ask Greg Collier, he runs that one on his road car, and he could probably vouch that it is a quality piece. Very similar the the GT30r. Fp's customer support is also top notch. Couldn't go wrong with almost any BB 50 trim though.

For the record, a true Garrett GT30R variation will come with a T3 hotside, but vendors do make "bolt-on" DSM housings to satisfy the crowds.

Well, After days of looking.. I'm still looking. I don't know why it is so hard for me to choose a turbo this time. I've been looking at the GT30R made by bullseye-power but sold by SBR. This is also a ballbearing turbo. Here is the link:

http://www.slowboyracing.com/shop.php?sid=&cat=4337

Does anyone have any feedback on this turbo yet? SBR said it has ''awesome" spool up and will definatly be enough to help me get to my goals.
