hey guys i blew the engine in my 97gst and installed a 96 engien into it unfortunitly i didnt have the wiring harness or ecu from the 96 what all do i need to do to make the engine work in my car or would i be better off selling the 96 engien and finding a 97-99 :dsm:

If they're both originally 2g GST's then they are identical under the hood. You can simply unplug your blown engine, remove it, drop in the new one, and plug it back in.

actually if you used the 96 cas you would need to do alittle work.

from dsm link:

"the '95-'96 style Cam Angle Sensor (CAS) sends out a signal that's electrically "inverted" from other DSM cam sensors (1G or '97+ style). When you put a '95 ECU into a car with a non-95 CAS, the ECU ends up swapping the firing order of the injectors. In most cases, this produces very little noticeable difference in drive quality. But we offer the option to invert the CAS signal anyway just in case. You can selectively invert this signal with the DSMLink software as you wish. You will still need to swap your spark wires, though. We can't control spark firing order in the EPROM at crank time. So even with CAS inversion, you still have to swap plug wire 1 with 2 and 3 with 4."

If you are putting a 96 engine into a 97 car.

Swap the intake cam shaft. That way the 97-99 Cam sensor bolts back up. Then it should be a 99% direct swap. Using the 95-96 style head you will have to cut and splice your car harness CAS pigtail and followthe RRE directions on installing a 1g CAS, if you dont swap intake cam (97-99 are drilled and tapped for a bolt to hold the CAS on). Now the next issue, you also want to look at the intake manifold, perticularly the vacume lines. I know the 99's are set-up different then 95-96's, if they are different, just use your old IM ( the hard metal vacume lines are different).

Also swaping the cam= 100% just as stock, no spark plug wire swaping or anything.
