I wanted to post this thread to see everyones opinions on different types of boost controllers. I am looking into getting an electronic boost controller but I am unsure of what brand, or if there is a better manual boost controller I may look into that.

I have an Apexi AVC-R and I love it. Display kicks ass, controls boost perfectly, gear dependant boost settings. And I was able to use it's pressure sensor as a loggable boost source in DSMLink.

I like the Hallman evolution kit.
It works great and you can adjust it from in the car. :thumb:
I do not like the electronic ones. :notgood:

Profec B.

Can be had for fairly cheap now adays, has all the advantages of an EBC but no fancy smancy complicated stuff like the Spec 2. Just Set it and Forget It. :thumb:

I have the Profec Spec S or something, works great, doesn't leak like my old mbc. Change boost levels on the fly, and holds well, good spool.

Profec B Spec 2. Once set up properly holds boost perfectly.

I thought I'd go cheap and use a MBC when I started. Never again will I hop in and out of my car to adjust boost every time the weather changes and throws things out of whack.

I also retired my boost gauge, and only use the Profecs display and peak/hold functionality to show boost. Low/high boost setting is nice for sandbagging another car if you want to hustle a race. Nothing ruins a good hustle faster than letting them hear you come on and off the throttle. ;)

Retuning for different boost levels is a SAFC trick. SAFC = :notgood:

Turbosmart E-Boost. I can set anything I want with it, and between it and DSMlink I have nearly complete control over everything I need.

Its expensive, but it does everything I want and I dont have to stop and pop my hood to set boost levels.

Joe P for me and doesn't change boost level when the wheather changes. I can't see why people pay 3-4 hundred for one. Guess I'm just poor

Changing boost levels on the fly without making proper fuel adjustments rules. :rocks:

Ummm, more boost=more airflow, ecu is told this & adds more fuel

Anyways I use the profec type S, it works great, very simple to use. Its the new version of the old profecB. Has 3 knobs, 2 are for different boost levels and the third is to set the gain. Super easy to use, holds rock solid, no spikes and spools the turbo faster then my old turboxs high performance boost controller.

No kidding. So you can just turn up the boost and the car will take care of itself. Interesting.

Probably best to tune with high boost, just make sure low boost is high enough to use the same map as high.

I run a blow-thru maft and the car doesnt care if the boost controller is set at 14 or 19... the wot AFR doesnt change and the trims barely change. Maybe you might have to retune if you run a speed density system or if you turn the boost up to the ragged edge of your fuel system.

I like my hallman evolution pro ceramic..... no spikes, steady boost control, no locknuts or tools needed to adjust, and it looks pretty. :thumb:

Sorry I guess that was a pretty general comment. No it won't be the exact same but if you are going from say 14 psi to 18 and are still on the same fuel map you will be pretty close. I have a widband and the readings are pretty much the same switching between those 2 boost levels. Now if your switching between 5 & 25, that would be a different story.

I know it's not the norm, but I was able to run 10psi on an evoIII with NO porting. It would only creep to like 11-12 psi maybe. Nothing on the car or turbo was ported, and it only creeped 1 psi.

Boostvalve.com MBC. It's rock steady and is really pretty cheap. I've used it on all my turbo vehicles and love it.

Probec B (origional with knobs) because it matches my boost controller

Hey Todd help me out here man. This looks more like flamebait than help. I'm sure people will benefit more from you telling them what they did wrong instead of beating around the bush.

Everyone else, please post a review on your boost controller in the Tech Guide so we can keep a record of this all in one place.
