I have a spare intercooler fan off my brothers MR2 :rocks: ....... my question to the forums is what you guys think.........bad idea or good. I think i should be able to squeeze the fan in the duct for the intercooler and hook it up to a switch in the glovebox or somewhere else in the car..... live in tucson and noticed that the crappy sidemount gets heatsoaked quick....don't quite have enough money to buy a FMIC (am working on it though) and thought this could be a easy mod that dosen't cost me anything....let me knw what you guys think....

bad idea :toobad:

Curious as to why this is such a bad idea? I know its not a common practice, but hell fans are used to keep rads cooler, maybe its not the greatest idea, but dont just say bad idea and leave it at that.

Thats what i was thinking and since i don't have butt loads of money to blow on my dsm i thought this would be a simple solution... :thumb:

no one out there has any other opinions???? :sosad:

Well if it's a puller fan it would be fairly beneficial if you mounted it behind the intercooler to pull air through it. However, a pusher fan mounted in front would probably do more harm than good.

If it's a pull-type fan mounted behind the intercooler, then I say go for it. If you can get better charge air cooling while utilizing the stock side-mount then that's awesome. :thumb: What would be really neat is if you could get a temp probe mounted right after the intercooler and get some temps with and without the fan.

i use to owned two MR2 Turbos before my talon and the fans worked great on it... i had dual fans on it... one runs all the time when car is on and one on a switch... it helped with the heat soak and kept the intercooler cool..

I completely agree that a pull-type fan of the right size could be beneficial, especially in traffic.

well i did some test fitting a little while ago and well it tough to say that its a puller and won't fit behind the intercooler...... as for in front of the intercooler i tried reversing the power but all it does is push air to the sides and not straight out :barf: so im gonna see if i can't turn the fan around and try it that way...ill post as soon as i can get it to work :thumb:

any reason why????
The volume of cool air coming through the inside of the IC when not boosting will far surpass anything a fan could pump through the fins. No fan can keep up with what comes in through the front-end of the car after 10 miles an hour. A fan on the IC might have a slight benefit when stopped and at idle, but not enough to make it worth the bother.

Do not bump your threads in the future, or they will be locked.

Why not hook up a hose to your rear washer motor/resevior and make a cheap IC sprayer? I've noticed a slight difference with the stock sidemount on my daily driver.
