I am looking to upgrade the Turbo on my car as I will need something alot more powerful and capable of making upwards of 400whp once I drop in my motor I am going to be building up. I have been checking out alot of turbos and AMS sells the GT35RL kit which you can find here... http://www.automotosports.com/dsm_turbo.asp

They are asking $2500 which seems about right but from what they say it seems to be a truly awesome turbo. Just wondering if anyone has any more information or is currently running this setup. I think I am going to purchase it from them so I wanted to get some feedback.

We now offer a Thick wall S.S. Header. Kit is based off of the AMS Evo kit which everyone has seen this kit make of 600 whp and good for 9's in the 1/4. Jim

Eric and I both run the GT35R kit on our cars.

How do you like the kit? I intend on running it as a daily driver on a built motor of course. If I do indeed purchase the kit (which I am really thinking I will within this month) is it possible to purchase the kit without the downpipe and with the SS header instead? I only ask because I already have a 3" downpipe on my Talon. Thanks for your response! I appreciate it!

You will need our downpipe. Your's will not bolt up, we use 3 bolt style flanges.

For a daily drive the kit is awesome. Full boost by 4k and 20 psi by 3600 or so.

Kit comes with:
Thick wall S.S. Header
Either GT BB turbo or standard turbo
Tial 38mm Wastegate
3'' S.S. o2 housing
3'' S.S. down pipe
S.S. oil feed and return lines
Water lines and fittings
All Bolts and gaskets you need

Price Depends on which turbo you want and if you want the header

Give me a call at the shop some time this week I could give you more info and pricing.

if u want to make 400WHP-500WHP why not go with a GT30R :dsm:

Very good statment.

Give me a alittle more info such as what gas you plan on running do you use a water injection kit. what hp numbers you want and 1/4 times your looking for. Ill give you a hand chooseing the turbo for you.

Jim

Good point you have there... I always run premium gasoline in my car which is 92 ocatane here in AZ. I don't really want to have to be running race fuel all the time unless I am at the track. I would not mind running a water injection kit at all. 400 plus hp is what I would like to see but to tell you the honest truth... I am not much of a 1/4 mile person at all. Of anything I will be taking the car to track days so I would like to have a fast car that is both good in a straight line and in the corners. I definitely want it to be fast though but I don't want to constantly have to be worrying about running race fuel and messing with this and that, know what I mean?

Well id go with a GT3071 or a GT3076(gt30r). Both are very quick spooling turbos and great for track and drag racing.

50 trims are great turbos but no were near a Ballistic turbo. It's night and day between the two. BB turbos spool and respool so much better and the last alot longer.

So both of those Turbos you mentioned are BB turbos? IS it possible for you guys at AMS to throw a kit together for me that would suit my needs? By kit I mean basically everything that is included with the GT35RL kit.

Yes, we could do that. Nothing changes in the kit just the turbo

Ballistic turbos are GT3076R, GT3071R or GT35RL

Standard pretty much on trim out there.

Jim

So then here is my next question... Between a 3076 and a 3071 what would be my overall deciding factors in choosing one of the two? So if you guys threw a kit together for me with one of these Turbos instead of the GT35RL how much would I be looking at base price. I know that price is mainly determined by what other options I go with but a general ballpark figure would be nice to know. Either way I am definitley going to be buying the kit from you guys.

Its hard to say which turbo is right for you. Best I could do is have you call me and ill give you more info on the the turbos and you decide which one is best for you.

Ill tell you this for those running a 2.0 motor doing drag and track racing most go with the GT3071.

For those using a 2.3L motor and looking to do the same most go with the Gt35r or the Gt3076.

Then there is the GT3076 which is a very popular turbo for those who don't mind a little lag but want a great all around turbo. When I say lag I'm talking about 100 to 300 more then the 3071. Jim

Chris....I noticed you live in Chandler. Im in Avondale. Have you ever been to the In&Out meets on thursday? Getting to the point. Mario is running a GT35R on his Spyder, not sure if you ever talked to him, but from the sounds of it he is really pleased with the turbo. He's usually down there on thursdays, and if not there, we are always cruisin on Bell saturday. Another thing you have to think about with your turbo decision, is this going to be a daily driver, or weekend warrior?

Jim... I will give you a call this week about the Turbos.

So what time are these meets at In & Out? I don't know any DSM guys so I would like to meet some new guys to chill with. I just moved down to AZ 2 months ago so I am eager to meet you guys!

only way I can give you directions on how to get there is by going east on I-10. Exit on Ray Rd....turn left at the light...go about a ¼ mile and you'll see In&Out on the left, along with Lowes or something, everyone starts to meet around 8:00pm and later, then around 10:00pm we all cross the street to TGI-Fridays. You are welcome to come, I will most likely be there this thursday.

No worries. I live right by the place in Chandler so I will see you there on Thursday :)
