well my 14b is pretty much shot. so shot i can lay down a 007 smoke screen on demand. so rebuild time. it doesnt seem too hard to do it myself and i found a write up on vfaq. so is this a good idea? any little tricks or tips i should know such as scribing marks on the compressor wheel to keep it in balance?

Opinions only:

If you're asking these questions, it's probably not a project you should be undertaking.

Or, you might luck out. One way or the other.

Other than the gimmicks and knacks of turbo rebuilding, the crucial step is the balancing- which is gravy if you have the bazillion-dollar tool that measures the balance.

Used, good turbos are just too cheap to make bothering with rebuilding worth the time. Which also makes giving it a try not all that big a gamble.

In all honesty, there are many sites about rebuilding it.
is it hard? absolutely not.
just send it out for balancing afterwards.
I spent, 100 and 45 minutes rebuilding mine. Another 50 to have it balance checked.
