Ok kids. I need some help. If you read my post in Hangout on my track visit, this is in regards to it. This 1G just baffles me. I have a 2G also, and I can tune any 2G perfectly so I am now a bit taken back at how lost I am.

A little background on the car. 1992 Tsi AWD. 16G ported, 2G exh. mani ported, 550s, AFC, VPC, Magnecor wires, NGK plugs, Denso FP, 3" turbo back exhaust with O2 eliminator, Joe P MBC, K&N, stock IC (just cleaned out), rebuilt motor (95 pistons, BS removed, assembly balanced, head redone with stock valves, new seals and a light port job), ACT 2600.

Car always seemed to have issues. Never got a clean run at the track in. I had a crappy exhaust and I got tons of knock at 15psi. Got the 3" exhaust and got some power back. Was able to boost 16-17psi and actually felt top end. AFC is all 0s for HI and LO. VPC (for those that know it) is full lean at idle, response is at 3 o'clock and gain is at 9 o'clock (-6 on the fuel across the entire rpm range). With these settings knock sucked butt. I was thinking IC since it is stock. Tonight it was 20 degrees and I still got a 15-33 knock count (went up in every gear) and timing from 20-16 (went down in every gear). Well on that run I logged O2 which I normally didn't log, don't know why. Turned out to be .80!!!! so I set the Gain on the VPC to +2 and made the second run, and my timing was 20-22 in every gear and knock was 8-15, going up in every gear. O2 was .84-.86. Now my VPC has the 550 chip and I was running half and half 94 and 116 octane fuel. Everyone I have talked to says they needed to lean out the VPC. Do I have some freak car? Is it possible? I know I definitely have to tune, but does any more experienced DSMers have any insight as to why my car runs so lean? It really makes no sense to me.

Any help is appreciated. Sorry for the long post.

Seems like you were getting it. I think you were running on the lean side. The Stock IC requires more fuel on top.
