looking through ebay i saw things for like 30 bucks they go to your ecu whatever and make the ecu think air is coming in something like that. and that give you 15+ HP is this really true???

this is what they say will this endanger the engine in running lean???
you really get HP

mitsubishi Eclipes timing advance kit. This kit will tap into your computer and make the computer think that colder air is coming in that what is really coming in thus advancing the timing and producing more power. This kit can be good for up to 10-20 hp. This kit will come with all the hardware needed to install it and the instructions on how to do it. This will not hurt your motor in any way and it will not affect your computer if its trying to retard timing because of detonation. This kit is great for stock applications or modified applictions. Install it at the track and see the gains in the quarter with your own eyes or install it at home and feel the diference. You dont need to know anything about working on cars. This kit comes with instructions, and all the parts you will need to complete the install

It's a total rip-off I would even consider getting that POS. If you look at his other auctions he sells them for like 20 different cars.

There are several options.

You can follow the link I provided. It explains how to modify the temp and baro sensor inputs to get some range of tuning. That how people tuned before there were AFC's.

You can buy a AFC (old or new), and use it to modify the MAS airflow input to the ECU.

You can buy a standalone engine management system like the AEM or Haltek and have full control over the fuel maps and timing curves.

What you should get depends on what you need based on the changes you made to your car. What problem are you trying to solve?
