I own a 98 gsx with the six bolt block sitting in it. I still have the 98 head on it since a lot of head work has been performed. All my mods include... 92 short block with 95 pistons and rods, bored 20 over, balanced crank, with balance shaft removed arp head studs, arp rod bolts, 98 head with a lot of work, Forced performance small 16g ported and polished with 34mm internal gate, ported exhaust manifold with 3" downpipe, no cat, hks dragger muffler, warlbro 190 intank fuel pump, stock injectors, apexi S-afc for tunning, hks fuel cut defencer, turbo xs recycle valve, injen intake, turbo xs high performance boost controller set at 19 psi, (since it is cold out), stock sidemount intercooler.

I have been doing some tuning on a data logger over the winter trying to get the bugs out of the car for next season at the dragstrip. Right now everything is running stout except for the fact that the car is only making 8 degrees of timing advance at full throttle. I have got some pretty unuseful information on other boards regarding this issue and was thinking maybe somebody else has had this problem, or might even know the answer to this problem. Is it time for bigger injectors, and a front mount, or even a dsm link??? I have had this problem for about 3 months now and I have found no fix, so please no BS answers, just actuall knowledge and useful information. Thanks!!!

One thing that jumps out at me is your boost with stock injectors on pump gas. 19 psi would cause massive amounts of knock therefore yank your timing way down. Turn your boost down to 13 psi untill you get some injectors.

2g are tough to get timing out of i founf in my 96 awd i got thr most timing & least knock @ 1.0 o2 voltage i got 17 deg of timing & .4deg ofnock vs .96 o2 volts & 11 deg of timing & 5 deg of knock & get som injectors & dsm link is great well worth the $$

i get the same as you (around 7-10deg advance max) on 7psi, 10psi, 14psi, and 16psi. much more and I hit fuel cut, but I have never seen decent timing.

try 5 gallons of c116 and watch your knock and timing. if you get alot more timing on the race gas then you need a fuel system.

I have tried 99.8 octane on the above boost levels and nothing changed. The only 2 times I have seem decent timing were when I mashed the gas down with the system leaned out.
1 was 23 deg for 1 time with 02 .84
the other was 21 deg for 1 count with 02 .86

I would try to get it down there again, but I'm too afraid of blowing the engine.

I have had thoughts of my 02 sensor reading high though, as at idle it will sit at .02 or .04 instead of cycling while timing bounces b/w 4-6 and my ltft is 0% (although my stft runs a consistant 17% when idling)

try some REAL race gas. throw some 110 or up octane in there and go from there. 99 octane is good but it could have been watered down by left over gas in your tank. your running alot of boost for the stock sidemount to try and cool. race gas will tell you what you need next.

the 99.8 was the final octane in the tank. I could try to run it bone dry and dump in some 110+, just gotta wait for the track to open.

for my side mount, the bumper is all cut out of the way in the front (I enlarged the hole about 50% all the way out to the ram funnel) and NO restriction behind it.
