Tell me I'm doing the right thing here. I ordered wideband, dsmlink, and a netbook

Ok. So this is actually my 4th 1G DSM. I finally have some money and I don't see anythign popping up on the horizon to make me have to sell it this time around.

I picked it up with a rebuilt and stroked engine. 3" exhaust. But its only got a 13b turbo on it and I removed the MBC untill I could get proper monitoring equipment. I'm pretty sure it has aftermarket cams on it. They don't look like stock cam gears to me(no dowel pin).

I'm just sitting here wondering how much HP I can actually gain for the 900$ I dropped on DSM link, lc1 wideband, and a 7" 110$ netbook to log and tune with.

I know I need all this stuff. Lol can somebody that has done a lot of tunes give me some sort of idea what extra performace I can squeeze out with this so make myself feel better:) I know its the right way to do it..I just never spent that much on my car and not have much idea what if any extra hp I'll get given I'm only running a 13b for now(obviously thats next in line).

Thanks for humoring. any input would be great.

Go to the ecmlink.com website an click on knowledge base. It will take you to the wiki, which is an awesome collection of how-tos and tutorials. You can even try the help section in the actual dsmlink application. It too has a lot of good reading. Start with those two to get yourself started.

I've been pouring over "how to" on ecmlink ever since I clicked the "blow up my credit card" button at dsmlink.com. The Eculink package just arrived today. I have to wait till the socket shows up so I can de-solder the chip and solder in the socket.
I'm also still waiting that mini laptop It just screamed Logging/tuner pc. Its 8"x6.5"x 1" thick 7" screen.

That's awesome, wish I had a mini laptop like that.

So what are your questions about tuning then?

Not so much questions on tuning. I'm just looking for peoples experiences on tuning results just so I can calm myself down about spending 900 bucks on that stuff that sorta indirectly are go fast parts. I really had to talk myself down from getting a new turbo and a FMIC before getting the stuff I actually got. Was hoping some people that have tuned or done multiple tunes could share their experience on performance gains after tuning so I can mentally justify the money I spent on ECUlink:) I know sounds kinda silly, I know having eculink will show its benefits most once I get REAL "go fast" parts.

Having good ECU control is like the best "go fast" part. You can make that 13b be the fastest lil 13b it ever has been on that car with the right tune. Hope you catch my drift.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I appreciate it.
as for the 13b It has to go SOON from what I've found it only flows 360cfm. which is terrible!!
That means 6lbs at 7k
or shifting at 4700 for 16lbs
or shifting at 5500 for 12lbs

I just godda figure budget vs turbo now
Even an E316g will only give me 16-17lbs at 7k(I think they flow 550)
I've not even checked where efficiency sits within that 550
This is all not even figuring I might wanna run up to 7.5k-8k
I know an e316g is pretty small for a stroker but I'm just trying to balance budget and want as well do.
decisions decisions..research research

You've made an excellent investment. Now that you have ECMLink, you can re-tune your car for every bolt on mod you add from now on and make the most of what you have. It will pay off time and time again. You may only be able to pull an extra 5-25whp out of your current set up with a professional tune, depending on how it's running now, but being able to tune for every bolt on mod or change to your MBC will be priceless :thumb:

If this was the only set of mods to be done to the car, it would be a poor choice. But as mentioned before, link is great to have from the start to actually see the maximum gains from each progressive mod. Any kind of tuning suite that tunes afr, and timing is the only way to go. Afc's are a waste of time and money for a 1g dsm with all of the great alternative (some free) methods. If more people would start out with a good tuning solution on their stock cars, less people would blow their cars up when they do mods.

You're doing the right thing.......

There is no "real" answer to your question. To many factors come into play. Will you see huge gains from a tune alone with a 13b, probably not (well I guess everyones description of huge is a little different as well) but as you step up in turbo size &/or other add ons, the more you do, the more you'll benefit from a good tune. Can a good tune make huge gains over a poor tune?, most defently.

For the money spent, it is most defently a good investment. It allows you to do many things, other then just WOT tuning. Another way to look at it is without it you could easily be blowing up a motor, so the investment doesn't seem so "steep" especially if the motors been built up abit.
