I only found one thread on this but it didn't provide me with sufficient information on the subject.

I know the gain isn't gonna throw me back in my seat, but I wanna know and understand how to run a GM MAF on the 2.0 NT motor.
I know you need a MAF Translator (the expensive part) I can grab a GM MAF from my junk yard (the cheap part). I'm assuming I'll have to upgrade my fuel injectors and my FPR, would that be it? Would I need to tune it some how so I don't run too lean or rich?

Any help on this subject would be much appreciated :)

you can tune with the translator. If it is compatible. search, and if you find nothing check diagrams for similarities.

you don't need to change anything else, but since you will have the ability to meter more air, why not dump more fuel.

Consider re-loacating it to a more convinient location.

GOOD luck, post results. and pictures.:thumb:

You're kidding, right? Seriously, there's no reason unless you have a turbo. You'll be wasting your money and there will be virtually no gains what so ever.

Running a GM MAF and Translator will only help if you're running above stock boost applications. Since your engine cannot gain air significant enough to change the volumetric efficiency of the stock internal 2 liter setup, upgrading injectors and getting a GM Maf will only allow you to do a little more tuning. In short, you would be paying a lot of money for very little gains.

Man... do they make nt eprom ecu's? If so, using Jackal would be awesome for that application. You could do all types of crap like switch to an alternative fuel easily like e85, advance your timing, adjust fuel for cruise/wot/idle....

I never thought about this, but it's definitely what I'd do if I had an nt 1g provided there were 1g ecu's that were nt and eprom.

I thought all early DSM's (90-91) had eproms, 92 some had it, then in 93 it went bye bye, not totally sure though

Not all 90's had them either.

Oh ok, I read up on this one time, obviously my memory is a little fuzzy :coy:

Not saying you couldn't toss a gm maf on there.. just need the translator as always, but have you checked out jackal ? http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tun...l-free-speed-density-tuning-software-1gs.html

I'm really sure if anything else is really worth the effort into doing tuning wise. You could run it on a 2bar. Running NA you can really do some fly stuff with Jackal that you couldn't do on a turbo car, running leaner AFRs more aggresive timing.. etc

You know the connection for the MAF on a N/T is different than a turbo right?

So is your ecu an eprom or what trav?

I'm not sure, I've never checked. I don't have the original ECU in my eclipse, I'm not sure what year the one in my eclipse is from, all I know is it's a CA model (but I converted it to Federal)

Ok, I'm going to clear up a few things here. To answer Trav83's question: Yes, you can easily use the GM MAF and MAF-T on the NT. I currently have one on my 91 Talon and it runs fine zeroed out and tuned. Now I wanted to use it to remove any intake restrictions and get a little tuning ability. I also upgraded to the 4G64 stock 275cc injectors not much of a difference from 240cc. I use the stock fuel pressure and pump. The 1g turbo MAF connector(harness side) is different in shape but has the same wire pins as the non-turbo plus 1. You can even use a turbo maf on the NT.... don't see why you would but you could.

1G Non-turbo
1 2 3
4 5 6

1G Turbo
1 2 3 4
5 6 7 8

Red pins share the same wire location and colors as the NT connector.

1G NT Pinout
1-Airflow Sensor
2-MPI Relay
3-+5V
4-Ground
5-Barometric Pressure
6-Intake Air Temperature

1G Turbo Pinout
1-Idle Position Switch
2-Airflow Sensor
3-MPI Relay
4-+5V
6-Ground
7-Barometric Pressure
8-Intake Air Temperature

**Pin 5 on turbo connector is blank**

Also the ECU pinouts are setup the same meaning the pins are in the same locations(speaking for 91-94, 90 has its own pinout) of course non-turbo ecu has no knock sensor and a few others. If your looking for a Eprom Non-turbo ECU then you have to find a NT DSM with one(very rare) or a Galant GSX/GSR(uses 9.8:1 pistons and has a knock sensor.)

GM MAF-T isn't something to go out and get for a non-turbo unless you can find it dirt cheap or its given to you. Best to look into ECMLink or Jackal(heard some good things about it). Keep in mind you need to do a rewire no matter what you decide to do.

GM MAF-T- Switch to Turbo MAF connector
ECMLink- Auto/Manual Turbo Eprom ECU 390cc/450cc injectors w/ turbo pump/regulator(minimum requirement), injector resistor pack, and the knock sensor or a complete wire harness swap.

I half-way agree. True the VE has not changed but I noticed a difference in the response of the car. It doesn't have to work as hard for the same amount of air(like breathing through a straw then breathing through a snorkel.). I can not fully argue this statement till I take my car to the dyno for a test/tune.

I gotta be honest, I think I'm gonna pass on trying this, money is kinda tight and it's more hassle than I wanna deal with. I do appreciate everyone who helped me understand how it could be done though, never hurts to get some insightful dsm knowledge ;) Thanks guys :thumb:
