This is a 1G mitsubishi I am trying to diagnose here. I am the original owner and the only mechanic for this car. I got stumped this time...

I have used a test light on pins 1 and 12 in the past to pull the code and see what is going on... I tried that this time and the test light would not light up at all... :dsm:

I know that I SHOULD be seeing a steady, 'heartbeat' like pulse of on and off flashes (if no codes) on the test light when the light is hooked up and the key in the run position but I get absolutely nothing. The book says that when the ECU is bad that the test light will show a constant 12 volts...

Also, even after 'clearing the memory' by unhooking the battery for a few minutes, I am still unable to pull any codes or voltage from test pins.

Is my ECU finally toasted or should I be seeing a constant 12 volts???

FWIW... 294787 OEM miles on this 1G ECU. If my failure to be able to 'pull a code' from this ECU means that it has died, "I still got my moneys' worth...". ;)

Thanks for any and all help here guys! :)

i dont think a test light will work as there wont be enough power at the terminals. pretty sure you need an older sweep style multimeter

A test light WILL work on pins 1 and 12 the same way that the sweep style MM does. I have used it before on 1G DSM's (we own 2, '90 model DSM's btw...) with no trouble.

I am just unsure what the 'no voltage' thing means as I had thought that a dead computer was supposed to show a solid 12 volts all of the time.

Anyone else ever see 'no voltage' at all??
