what software can i use to datalog a 1g with a laptop?

A buddy of mine just got his logger cable to use on a PC but the softwate it came with (ebay) isn't working. I've always used mmcd on my pda but he wants to use a laptop. What is available (for free) for him. Its a 1g. Thanks
