My car has a check engine light on. A friend and I hooked his Logger up to see what the issue was. There is a CEL code for virtaully every sensor on the car...like CAS, TDC sensor, knock sensor, coolant temp, MAFS . The car runs and idles nice...it feels slow. Also the ECU is only getting 1Hz of feedback while driving. Now at idle the car spiratically gets the correct readings on all the sensors and the Hz goes up to around 8hz. but quickly goes back to being crazy and only 1hz. when cruising the RPM jumps all around on the logger, but the cars tach is fine. The car is also getting extremely false readings like from the correct 0 counts of knock and jumping randomly to a impossible 250+ counts. This hapens spiratically at idle but its mainly completely off while the car is moving or off of idle. also the o2 sensor is reading a voltage of 5.2v and occasionally goes normal only to jump again.

We have a notion that something is not grounded properly, or that the ECU is failing but we arent sure. Has anyone had this problem or heard of anything like this and what could cause this? Please help!

It sounds too easy, but if it uses a 1st generation ECU, I'd look for leaking caps and damaged boards as a result. That just seems like too many things wrong for anything but an ECU.

yeah i have a 90 DSM ECU in there....i bought it off of a guy here on DSMtuners...figures.......everything inside is clean...no leaking caps...could've changed the caps and sold me the damaged ECU to make some money...i'll swap ECU's with someone to see if thats the problem...then go buy one

Looking back, i am almost sure it is the ECU and nothing else. There is a small audio system in the car (it was free) and a 1farad capacitor. When a friend that was helping went to hook up the power, he didnt discharge the capacitor (he didnt know there was a capacitor in the car).....so it arced really bad onto the battery post, and back-fed into the cars electrical system....im sure it killed the ECU when it did it. :notgood:

Anyone have a 90 ECU for sale? :confused:
