Although my Haltech expierence is limited (Helped a friend set it up on his car), and I have only had the EMS system for a week or so now. I would say that both systems are compairable in functions offered ( the AEM has a few more options).
However the two main reasons I would give the nod to the AEM unit is ease of instalation. The AEM plugs into the stock harness (10 min opperation). The Haltech requires you to use its own (harness). It is not difficult to install, but it is time consuming to make it look and fit good.
the other is software. The Haltech uses D.O.S. based software, while AEM uses windows based software. I find it eaiser to navigate through the windows system.
My car ran minutes after installing the AEM unit. The base program is not bad, but it is not acceptable either. I have been using the dataloging capibilites of the EMS, and a wide band O2 sensor (an additional $250 from Bosch) and in about two hours it was running much better. Once I am happy with the tuning I will submit a more detailed post of getting it dialed in. I hope this helps.
