Ebay $40 Data-Logger Vs $300 Data-Logger

Whats all the difference here! I bought a cheap datalogger from a guy on here and looks exactly like a ebay cable with software. The thing I thought these things had a bunch parts internally but when I opened up the end i only found 2 little resistor things kinda like this pic

seems to work fine, I saw how to make my own with a different configuration of parts, but for some reason I cant get the other diagram posted. Why would one diagram have a butt load of parts and this one works fine with 2 lil resistor thingies?

becuase they are stupid and they use more expensive parts like quad gate chips in stead of a 4148 switching diode and a 10k resistor yea thats what i founf out thats why i started making them and selling them cheap so people dont go out and buy an expesive one with unneccassary parts but dont get me wrong sum cables need it because of the data stream going through it and because it belongs to a different program with an adjusted signal . so sum use decoder chips like i think ob2 cables use decoders. i think i saw one witha decoder chip that was a rs32 sumpin.

the simple cable works because the modern serial hardware is able to sort out the data.. the old school stuff will have trouble without the "extra parts"

IS making datalogger cable is as easy as just getting a serial cable and cutting it, and using appropriate 3 wires?

Assuming it's for a laptop

Sweet grammer.

Babblefish couldn't figure out what language that is in, so I couldn't translate it.
