Looking at buying a car built by Speed and Sound...

Hey guys, as you can see I'm fairly new to the dsm world. I already have a 1g dsm that I have started to restore to it's former glory.

Anyway, I scour craigslist constantly for dsm parts and randomly came across a pretty nice looking 2g. Everything checked out, the dude had receipts and all, but the problem I'm having is that the most of the work, including building the block, was done by Speed and Sound back in 2006-2008.

Any thoughts? Everything I have heard about that shop is pretty terrible, but just wondering if anyone could offer opinions to the contrary. The dude that had the car built had nothing but good to say about them but still...he is about the only one.

If you want to buy a car like that you should check DSMtuners for a shop with a good rep in your area and ask them to look the car over. Leak down tests and compression tests are good, but still no guarantees there won't be problems later. If the car was built for racing the car has had the kaka kicked out of it. Craigslist is like Kijiji here in Canada and it is buyer beware. I personally wouldn't buy it unless your mechanic says its perfect. If you can send a link to the ad and let other members see the car, it couldn't hurt.

Thanks for the advice! Although I'm new to the Dsm world, I am by no means new to performance cars. I had already planned on checking the compression and going over the car for anything out of the ordinary.

I was mainly just curious if anyone had any experience with the shop. I have heard almost nothing but bad things about them the more I ask though, so I'm probably going to pass on the car. It's sad, because other than a questionable builder, the car looks great.

I have seen multiple people have there car tuned at that shop and with in months motors where popped. A personal freind of mine had a new sti motor built and tuned there and when the tuned it they said that knock was ok and let it go ok the doors needless to say that 10k was blown out the oil pan!!!!

I decided that it was best to pass on it. I have literally only heard bad things about that shop from everyone I talked to (Read: Over 20 people).

unforantitly there really are no good dsm shops in the STL area. But with that being set check out gatewaydsm.org thats where alot of us stl dsmers hang out i'll lookhere from time to time but mainly there
