Anyone in the St. Louis area interested in a 1998 Eagle Talon TSI AWD that's been professionally modified for instant gratification to throttle input? I'm selling the Talon that I've been driving since 1997 with the intent to keep it forever. But, now that my 71st birthday is behind me it's time for an old man's car. My next road trip will be in an Infiniti G37X AWD coupe. Almost as much fun as the stroked Talon and a lot more luxury.
I bought this car to replace my well worn1991 AWD Talon on the first day Eagle allowed orders for the 1998 model, knowing it would be the last of the Talons. The car was ordered with a limited slip differential, ABS and air conditioning but no luxury options, it was intended to be a performance car.
It was my daily driver for nine years and meticulously maintained with the intent to keep it forever. The suspension and brakes were modified gradually and the exhaust was opened up but the engine was kept stock until my retirement in 2006. In 2006 I contracted with a local speed shop for a major project to convert the engine to a 2.3L stroker, rebuild the transmission with a high stall torque converter and many supporting modifications. I wanted instant gratification to throttle input with no turbo lag.
I grew up driving V8s and even though my Talons have been fun to drive hard I still missed the immediate power of the big displacement engines. My 1998 Talon was modified to emphasize low end/ mid range torque. The Talon now has no turbo lag and still has plenty of top end for spirited road trips.
The main modifications for instant gratification are:
Three inch exhaust for faster spool.
EVO 3 16G turbo for faster spool.
Longer stroke for more displacement and torque.
Higher compression ratio for more off boost power.
Cams optimized for low/mid range for more off boost power. (264/264).
Adjustable cams gears set to move the torque curve down.
Higher stall torque converter for less time spent at low RPM.
See the classified ad at DSMtuners for the the full modification list and terms.
The past 21 years driving AWD DSMs was a good experience. Driving the Talon to the car wash yesterday for listing photos put another smile on my face but now that I've posted in the quitters thread it's time to move on.
I will also list the car on AutoTrader.com but my preference is to have a member of the dsmtuners community drive and continue to enjoy the car.
$8000 gets you a unique car with a clean title.
There's just over 200,000 miles on the chassis and 19,000 miles on the engine/transmission rebuild.
See the ad for other wear parts that have been replaced recently.
