have to admit, this was my first earthquake. i was at work when my desk started rolling..and then the building swayed. scared the crap out of me. i walked down the hallway at work afterwards and my boss was like "Melissa, why are you so white"....hahahaha what an amazing feeling. sweet vids wes. that shits crazy!!!

hahah i like how they all ran out!!!.. i was just about to do that at my apartments because theres 4 other floors on top of me but it stopped jsut when i got to the door, good thing because i only had boxers. two of my friends were both butt naked when it happened at their houses taking showers.. hahah!!!!

Did any of you try to make a cell phone call after the earthquake? I couldnt make a call until like 20 minutes later, my co-workers phones were'nt wroking either. My co-worker ran out of the building and fell in ther process. I never seen that guy run that fast. Hey Soad, you know any good bike shops out here by the Long Beach area? or close to? I need someone to take a look at my bike.

I don't really know of any shops down that way. Once I get my cylinder had back I could check your bike out at one of the LADSM Monday night meets.

This is not my first earthquake in CA. I thought it was pretty neat. We felt it pretty good in South O.C.

I was sitting in the parking lot at work just after i got back from lunch. All of a sudden my car shook, looked next door and cars were swaying back and forth.. Got inside ad everyone was going nuts. We felt it as a 1.x I think. Preliminary reports were saying it was 5.8 but later dropped to 5.4.

My first earthquake in CA. Was awesome.

Good thing my bay was at the opening of our shop. It wasn't that bad, so i tried to lower the car that was on my lift before the aftershock hit.

I Live in Winnetka, 2 miles from Northridge. Yesterdays Earthquake was weak sauce. 1994 is a whole different level. The Apartment we where living in at the time fell on its side. we had to sleep in the park for a couple of days. We moved into are house 2 weeks later. This house had no Damage during the quake. Nothing on this block live. House Looks good after yesterdays. This House is a trooper, and it was built in 1955

Northridge was by far the more powerful quake but this one felt way stronger out here. This is the first quake in my 27 years in California that has been centered out here by the Pomona Valley that could do any damage. I remember the Northridge quake and out here that quake barely did anything more than rattle windows. I'm glad I wasn't closer to the epicenter for that one.

This earthquake was skittles....NOTHING.....compared to the 1994 North Ridge quake. People freaked out about this one and it was talk over the dinner table that night. The 1994 earthquake shutdown Los Angeles for months, the 5 and the 14 freeway junction bridges were destroyed....and you thought traffic was bad......major freeways were shut down.....water wasnt available for days, electricity was gone for a week or so........and cell phones.....no one had them back then unless you were someone important to carry around the brick called a mobile phone. Even then, phone lines were not avaibable for weeks.....they had to ration out water and food, we had to make phone calls from mobile phone centers......and guess what, when you dial 911....they won't be there for you when the big one hits. Parks were turned into camp grounds because of all the aparment complexes that were unsafe to stay in. The grocery stores were swarmed with people buying water and food....and ran out in a day.

Most of our family lived in San Diego at the time, they didn't hear from us until a week later.

Verizon reported a 400% over normal capacity after the quake hit. Overloading lines.
Sprint reported a 800% over normal capacity after the quake hit. Overloading its lines.

Not trying to make it sound like doom and gloom but all these people that thought this was a serious earthquake haven't felt one before. This past earthquake was like an aftershock.

Not sure why I keep hearing this from so many people. To be perfectly honest, I didn't hear a SINGLE person "freak out" about the Chino Hills quake. I didn't hear anybody say that it was a major quake in comparison to the North Ridge quake either. Yes, it was the talk around the dinner table because it *was* the biggest quake we've had around here in a long time. And for a lot of people (like me) who haven't lived here for 14 years, this is the biggest quake they've been in.

I don't think anybody has lost perspective of how big prior earthquakes have been, but a 5.4 does remind people that they need to be prepared for a bigger one. That's the gist that I got from all the news reports and local conversation around here.

not everyone has lived their entire lives in california...it was a huge deal to me because i grew up in north dakota...i've seen tornados in my day. not an earthquake...

I have been though many, many quakes in CA and although this one was not as powerful as some in the past it did shake a lot longer than any others I have been through

I felt this one in Malibu When I felt the ground shake I ran to the liquor department (we have $400 bottles of Perrier-Jouet) and thankfully we only lost one bottle of cheap stuff This one cashier freaked out so bad she ran across the street
