If I put a 3" Magna Flow catalytic converter and a K&N air filter on my 97 Spyder. Keep in mind that the Magna flow catalytic is not California legal but legal in other 49 states. Will it pass the emission test ?
Furthermore, if I just bypass my turbo and put on the stock rubber intake hose with K&N filter, will my car pass the smog check ?

NO because of visual. plus hi flow sometimes just don't cut it, still fail.

If its not smog legal in cali. than it wont pass, sorry. As for the intake unless is says carb legal than it wont pass visual either.

Technically its illegal to install any aftermarket gauges or touch / install just about anything under the hood unless it has a CARB sticker and some places even hassle you you with that, but though its not legal there are plenty of places that will not mind if you have a K&N filter or some other minor mods , and its very unlikely that they will question weather your cat is 49 state or CARB legal as long as its similar to OEM looking and not one of these EBAY test pipe cats they most likely would not even notice. As long as you don't have any CELs and your car is running properly its possible to pass with those mods. I know plenty of people that have passed with a lot more than an intake, myself included. Getting those mods to pass a ref ticket is a deferent story but a smog tech is not usually going to check that closely and you can ask them before if you will pass visual and go somewhere else if they say no.

My GSX passed smog with custom cat back and megan exhaust, but had stock cat. Not sure really.. I wouldn't chance it.

If you have a stock cat CARB and smog checks are not concerned with anything after the cat.

Catback is legal as long as long as the cat is not modified .I've read the State book, Cat-back are not legal to Law Enforcement due to noise level. thats how they give us the shaft
