Wasn't sure were to post this, but --- I just completed a 4G63 swap into a 98 GS non turbo - all components - and I'm in the tuning and refining stage - I'ts a big project - but, if done correctly, works very well. The car was at its first show in Montreal and will be at full throttle next weekend. We incorporated numerous engine mods (1G - JDM to start with) I have some pix's and have worked out the headaches (including harnesses). The project was for my partner's car. The intent was to make it look neat, clean, and showable.....

OK here's a pix after installation during final wiring. I'll put some more pix up shortly.

Other than the performance mods which, if wanted, you would do to a 2G (and in this case, it's a 6 bolt 1G Motor) actual conversion parts, bought primarily through DSM Trader ran about $1800. - including a number of items bought new from Mitsu. The performance mods were the expensive part. The catch is understanding the differences between the GS and GST, which I now know quite well.

My partner really loved his car and did not want to trade it, knowing that the additinal expense of approx 3000. for a GST would only give him a 2G GST. In the end, he ended up with a better engine with healthy horsepower and a car that now draws attention.

The price I stated is for the conversion parts - In addition he had to buy the engine and trans for approx 1500. But again, thats ending up with a 1G 6 bolt motor thats durable.

Have you actually been able to start and drive it yet man? If so, very impressive. I know there is one guy locally here who did that and his car burned to the ground from some bad wiring done during the conversion. I thought about attemptimg it because I have a motor and tranny next door running for 1k but so few have accomplished it, I am just going to build my bottom end. Congrats bro.

Greaaatt now all the N/A guys are going to start buyin up all the 1G 6 bolts! J/K

WOW, that is badass man! Now the GS/RS folks have three options. When you finally get it done and have time are you going to post up a parts list and final total cost? That would be really cool.

Once again, nice job.

Have been out of town and haven't been able to respond on the swap. The car is on the road and presently in Montreal - driven daily. Were going to be scanning the operating parameters on Friday along with an upgrade to the fuel system. We would like to 1/4 mile it on Friday night. Next were going to be upgrading the injectors and working to add a dsm link. Though, in its current condition, it blew my 1G turbo Eclipse(with approx 265 hp) away. At about 3500 - 4000 when the turbo kicked, it was gone. The motor was designed for 400 hp with larger injectors and modified operating parameters. We've been checking the motor mounts regularly and havent had any sign of deterioration on the welds. When we welded in the mounts, we body molded them as well. Even with a pounding, there's not a hint of a crack in any of the molding. Still a couple of things left to do - - - windshield washer - - cruise control vacumn pump - - and finalize the AC.

what about the tranny? did you changed it too?and is it such a hard a$$ swap or some educated mechanic and educated welder could pull this off? and how much do you pay for your insurance in NJ bc am in NJ and i want dsm badly but need to work and save up some money. thanks
