Wierd problem that I was hoping some other people had experienced. My clutch pedal clicks/pops, but not when the car first starts in the morning. After 10 minutes or so, it starts clicking, and then sometimes it goes away if I drive a lot that day. The pedal has no slop, so I don't think the linkage has worn, I'm on a stock (but very aged) clutch, and my clutch cylinders are both leaking. Any ideas of what the culprit could be? It doesn't really affect shifting, it's just really irritating.

Could be that you're just low on fluid. Check your resivoirs. Also if you get a chance, replace your slave cylinder leaky = bad.

Also that clicking could be your throwout bearing.

Just some ideas.

Maybe it's the pedal return spring clicking?

im guessing that it is also that, mine would click at times. when i replaced my clutch, i checked the tob and it was in perfect condition. so i am relying on the pedal return spring on this one.

I would say the spring too, BUT. is it a constant click? like When you herd the sound and left the clutch were it is, would it keep doing it? or does it just do it when You go pass a certan point???

grab some lube. get under there and LUUUUUUUUBE it up!!! and see if that helps.

1G's are known to wear their clutch pedal linkage, especially when a heavier pressure plate is used on old and/or OEM parts. You may need to swap in new parts or just lube it up. My 2G also clicks, but the linkage is not the same design. My problem is a plastic bushing the has been worn out and now allows some movement, hence the clicking. Good luck.

Hm, didn't think of the spring, but now that you mention it that really does sound likely. It only does it past a certain point (won't continue to make the sound if I leave the pedal in the same position). I really doubt it's the TOB as I'm sure the sound is from inside the cabin. The reservoir was just topped off a little while ago and that hasn't seemed to affect it. Damn, why didn't I think of the spring, I'm almost certain that's it. THANKS SO MUCH! You have no idea how happy it makes me that I could be rid of this irritation so easily. Also, I doubt it's the linkage because I've tested the linkage for any play and it exhibits none.

So should I just lube it up or do I need to replace the spring? Thanks again! :D You guys rule!

I would just LUUUUUUUUBE it up. I dont know if Replacing the spring is going to help. Im sure theres a grove thats formed from the spring and causing the clicking. I dont think a new spring will help it.

How would I know? Aren't those at the top of the pedal (as in the pedal rests up against them when the pedal is not depressed)?
