yea, mine did the same, so i used a hex or a octagon shape bit and tightened it... it doesn't do it anymore... there should be like 4 or 6 of them.

I've tightened those screws and I still have rattling. Anybody else have this problem? I think my rails are just worn loose or something. At first it was annoying, now i just got used to the noise. It would be nice to be able to get rid of it though.

I know this is a 1G, but I had the same problem on my 2g. It involved a lot of work, but it's really quiet and should help you 1G guys out too...
First, get a factory manual. It's invaluable. Second, get a new set of hex screws from the dealership... They are only a few bucks, and have the factory thread lock on there. Then, get some silicone spray, medium strenght threadlocker, grease, and some self adhesave felt padding ($2.00 at Home Depot).

1.) Take the entire sunroof assembly apart, starting with the glass and the six hex screws. If you're not replacing the seals on the glass, put some silicone on a cloth and rub it into the seal... That alone will solve a lot of problems. Change the cloth like a wax rag, as you will pull a lot of dirt from the seal.

2.) Using the factory manual as your guide, remove the left and right half of the sunroof guide assembly. If your cables are good and tight, you don't have to replace them (or remove the headliner!)

3.) Clean the rails completely using some Windex and a rag. Then, grease all moving parts with silicone spray. Grease the rails and hinges of the assembly with grease.

4.) Replace all eight of the rubber contact patches with the felt adhesave pads. Cut each piece into a 3/4" by 3/4" inch square, and cut a hole in it for the screw to fit through.

5.) Replace the assembly, using a good amount of threadlocker on each of the eight screws that hold the assembly into place. Let it dry for a few minutes.

6.) Replace the window glass, but make SURE that the front of the glass is pushed all the way down at the lowest setting of the adjustable point. The manual says that the front of the glass should be just below the body, and the rear should be 1mm above the body.

7.) Use a good amount of threadlocker on the hex bolts. Even though the factory bolts already have it, more can't hurt. Don't overtorque the bolts, as they will strip the assembly on the glass pretty easily.

8.) Enjoy the silence.

Hope this helps,
Matt.
