hi guys im new to tuners ive always owned muscle cars, I found a 95 eagle talon tsi awd for what seems to be a reasonable price ($2500) but it has issues with power locks and windows, they don't work, ive been told the body control module may be what is wrong with it, anyone know where to get one other than a junkyard? or if that may even be the fix? also the head gasket needs replaced should I just pony up the money and replace the head while im at it (if I even get the car) any help is appreciated, thanks!

For the window and lock issue your main options are the junkyard, ebay, or the classifieds. Never heard of the head being a problem on these cars. I would just replace the stock head bolts with some stonger head studs and get the oem composite gasket. Wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the valve stem seals and the cam seals while the head is off.

yeah ive heard a few horror stories about heads but maybe just people wanting to talk down on the car, but thanks for the reply it helps, and also for a car with those problems, but with a good body and good interior is that a fair price?

Its very important to make sure you change the timing belt every 60k or you will run into head problems when you crush your valves. With proper maintance though, it's not an issue. I wouldn't pay that much for it with a blown head gasket. You could get a running 95 for that price.

What would you pay? Apparently they are like gold around here the others ive found with worse bodies are listed for mint condition pricing

I got my 95 with 85k for $2300 back in 2008. Drove it 12 hours home. I'd say around $1500. Your the one taking the risk here. Why did the head gasket go in the first place, did it warp the head, ect. Check it out thoroughly. It's hard to find a good dsm in a lot of places, here included so you may have to pay more than others. Post up some pics if you can.

As far as price goes, it all depends on where you live. Here I think thats a good price, as long as there is minimal to no rust, and in pretty decent shape. You can always start off with a lower offer and work from there..Also I have never heard of these engines having problems with the heads.

Also ask the owner if he can let you do a compression test on the cylinders, that will tell you a lot on the state of the engine.

Ill be sure to check all that, and thats the problem (blowing gaskets and warping heads) ive heard alot and its actually more operator fault not factory my bad,

The best tool you have in your favor when looking at a car with known problems is this, go get a quote from a shop for the fix and take it with you when negotiating price.

I literally STOLE a bronco using this method. Guy said the trans was bad in it, 96 eddie Bauer with 110k, listed it for 2200, I went down with a quote of 1300 for a transmission and bought it off him for 1k, took it to the shop and the shift linkage was messed up, they adjusted it and I drove it home that day for no charge on the adjustment.... just saying, paperwork does wonders

The BCM? That's a rarity to go bad. But if you want to try it. 60$ il pull mine and send it so you can see it isn't it. I bet fuses, relays or wiring in the door jamb before a BCM.

Also, for those who dont have the head milled after pulling it because of a problem. You deserve it. Unless I just rebuilt the motor 500 miles prior. If it pushes coolant, got hot. Or unknown: get it milled!

heres a link to the car im looking into, and the only reason I say bcm is because ive talked to non dsm guys that THINK that may be it because of all the electrical problems but that is why I joined this forum to get more accurate ideas of what to look for and the info ive received so far is great since this a different world from what im use to

my street / strip car im building is a '69 charger, where as the eagle if I get one will be my daily driver so I can retire my 98 ram 2500 to just my towing truck and save $300 a month in gas since it gets horrible mileage 8mpg, 10 mpg on good day due to my lift kit and big tires haha

I think the car is clean, its a good shell and the interior looks ok. I don't see 3k invested though, unless he is using the cost he paid for the car in there.

Also, him stating he bought the car in the current state its in means he ran into a wall with either his ability to fix the car himself, or he found out he needs to shell out $$$$$$ to get it done.

I'd really pass myself, unless that guy gets back in the real world and sees he has been sitting on a broken down car that is greatly depreciated in its current state.

If he paid his asking price or even his first asking price (3500) for that broke down car then he's an idiot, don't pay for his financial screw up
