-First off the turbo has 18k miles on it and he wants $400 is that a good deal or does it go for 350?

-Second My big Evo 3 16g is effed. so i was wondering if this would be a good turbo to get again

-Third Which is a better turbo and which is bigger the evo 3 or the evo 9 turbo.

Thanks!

-First off an Evo IV-IX turbo won't work on your car.

-Second; again, it won't work on your car....the inlet and outlet are on the wrong side, and the turbo rotates the wrong direction.

-Third the Evo IV-IX 16G has a larger compressor cover, but it doesn't matter because it won't work on your car.

idk it spools but it wont boost the car. the turbo glows red after 5 minutes and takes like 45 minutes to an hour to stop glowing. im only running 12 lbs on it.

Shaft play? Perhaps the shaft is bent?

no shaft play. weirdest thing ever. my buddy said 4 yrs of dsm experience he has never seen this happen before. im interested in the 20g also

Sounds like a tuning issue more than anything with the turbo, but that doesn't explain no boost unless the shaft broke.

I don't have any Evo III's at my shop, but I believe there's one Big 16G and a 20G or two down there. Demands for MHI turbos have shifted toward Holset so I haven't been stocking as many rebuilt MHI units lately...not to mention the deals on the MHI rebuildable turbo cores just haven't been there.

whats the difference between MHI and holset? what does that mean

another question, is there a difference between TDO5H and TDO6H? and what is it, the turbo flange/manifold?
Turbine size. It means the difference between a turbo that spools fast or offers additional airflow on the hotside to support large compressor wheels.

whats the difference between MHI and holset? what does that mean
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries builds the turbos that are used on our cars. Holset builds turbos that are generally used on diesel applications, but can be adapted to work on our cars with great success.

No offense, but if you don't know the basics such as available turbine sizes and what they mean you may just want to stick with a replacement turbo of the same size.

Pretty sure MHI is Mitsu. Hybrid and Holset is another type of turbo found on big diesel trucks. Search this site you will find lots of info on either.

I know that but what i mean is what would fit on my application for a 20g a TDO5H or TDO6H....does it matter?

and also the 20g bolts right on correct? so i can leave the turbo manifold on the car

i am confused by the TURBO ROTATES THE WRONG DIRECTION part of this statement.

please explain because i don't get that.

Notice anything unusual regarding the shape of the wheels?

No it doesn't. As long as the turbo has a Mitsu inlet flange on it it will be a bolt on, as far as mani to turbo goes. Sounds like you want all your simple questions answered on a silver platter. I suggest reading the many sources of info my friend. Or ppl are going to start getting agravated.

Thanks I really appreciate you answering my questions. I am thinking of ordering a 20g and I'll let you know how everything goes
