My alternator died, so while waiting for a new one, I decided to rewire the alternator wire.

I ran 4 gauge wire from the alternator to the firewall with a 100amp fuse and ran the wire to the battery. I took out the 100 amp alternator/choke fuse from the fuse box and removed the wire that went from the alternator to the fuse box. The third wire that goes from the battery to the fuse box (and the alternator choke fuse, that is no longer there) is still connected. I routed in this way because I had no way of getting under the car last weekend.

Problem: The interior lights, door buzzer, door lock and alarm don't work. Car starts, headlights work, tail lights work, hazard lights work.

Another thing that happened is that I forgot to take out the ground before I attempted to take out the +ve terminal on the battery and I had a little spark when my screwdriver touched the metal on the cruise control box. I checked all fuses and they seem fine.

I'm thinking that maybe I need to put back the 100amp alternator fuse to power the other side of the fuse box that no longer has the power wire. Any ideas?

Did you make sure to attach the battery the the side of 100A fuse that distributes power to the other circuits (power seats, windows, radio, alarm, defogger, and AC) in the fuse box?

The FSM shows that there were 4 wires in two pairs before. One pair fed the distribution bus with the 100A alternator fuse and the other pair fed most of the rest of the car. Both are needed and it sounds like you only have the other distribution bus connected.

Steve, Thank you for your quick reply.

Did I attach the battery to the other side of stock 100A alternator fuse? No, I didn't. The stock 100A in the fuse box has 2 sides - One is the alternator side, which has no wires, has nothing on it. The other side (which is the battery side) and is connected.

So if I put back the stock 100A alternator choke in the fuse box, it should power the other side of the stock 100A fuse and everything should work - correct?
