well as i was about to install the "new" alternator i see one broken off "rib" and one cracked. i just got this from jnztuning.com. well, ive read that remanufactured alternators dont last long so i THOUGHT i was buying a new one from the discription they gave

Chain store products and remanufactured alternators are ofen prone to early failure and it sometimes takes multiple tries to get a good unit. Sure, they are under a lifetime warranty, but that warranty doesn't compensate you for the labor on multiple installs.
Avoid the hassles and do it right the first time with a real Mitsubishi replacement alternator.

well anyways the the thing is broken and heres the pic http://tinypic.com/44b4m4j.jpg
can i still use this or should i return it and buy a new one from mitsubishi? thanks

Its as simple as this...RETURN IT! Putting on a broken part just to avoid a hassel, of some labor cost, when it could break in a day or two, and you have to go replace it anyways. Think about it if its broken before you put it on how long will it last before it completely breaks, and takes something else out with it like a bely.

I would return it definitely. Even though it'll function just fine probably. It's hard to find new alternators, if you do they're generally really expensive. I have replaced my alternator 5 times, 4 of the were from autozone. Finaly I had a local shop rebuild it for me with a little more juice. I would either suggest a local shop as they seem to do a better job then some kid in China that autozone's outsourced to. Or you can look for a new one online, most you'll find are High Output, which are nice.

EDIT: Ah, beat to it!

Gotcha:)
I would just spend the extra cash and save time by getting a genuine mitsu alt. for our cars, I got 1 from Autozone which caused my battery fluid to boil, and cracked the battery, not a very fun thing to happen, thats what sometimes happens with those crappy inconsistant chinese made alt. So I sayed to hell with this got a new battery, and a genuine mitsu alt from the dealer, and haven't had a problem since. I put 26k miles on it too, with a nice consistent power output.

If my memory serves correctly it was around 230$, but that was because my family owns a mechanic garage, and I got it at our cost. It was more then a year ago that I got it though, so it could be a little more, or a little less.

Wow! Must be nice! The only time I get a discount is when I use my valu-pak cupons at the grocery store, haha. I think they told me 300 some last year when I was looking around.

What you purchased was a Mitsubishi Remanufactured Alternator---not a new one.

New Alternators for any of the 4G63 DSMs haven't been available since around 1998.

Well they called it new, but either way it works great, and no problems, and has a good constant voltage.

So I'll be sending the alternator back to jnztuning tomorrow. I was lucky to find out that
http://mitsupartsdirect.com/ is like 15 min away from me. When i told them i was refered by others on dsmtuners, he dropped the price from 311 to 235 + 20 for the core. :thumb:

The only thing that makes me wonder is how they supposedly give 30% off of list on parts and we give 25% off---yet the part is $201.56 (with core charge of $40 included in there) through us, and they charge $255 (with core charge of $20 included in there)?

*sniff-sniff-hmmm*

Who is "we"? do you sell alternators for 160 plus 40 for the core?

All dsmers should get a discount from all dealers, because we have to replace so many damn parts

ah crap. i should have asked jnztuning for a dsmtuners discount when i ordered $400 worth of stuff

Actually, I meant $221 with $40 being core charge which is refundable.

The point it that I get annoyed when places offer "X%" discount, but then jack their "List" price up to compensate.

I can offer 75% off on parts---if I jack the list price up by 50%.

Discount "percentages" don't mean jack. The bottom line is what the actual *PRICE* is that you end up paying.

You already received the "Club DSM Discount" when you ordered your parts. There isn't different discounts for all of the different DSM boards. Otherwise we would have to offer 10 different discounts.:dsm:

This is Erik btw from JNZ Tuning. DSSA is the boss man.:thumb:

In the end the total is 201.52 including the core charge but the core is $20 not $40. The mitsu alternator itself is $181 through JNZ Tuning.

Not to sound "cheap" or anything, but i think i bought my alternator from ricerzone (autozone), for like 100$, and i havent had any problems with it.

Cool. And yeah, I guess they did raise the price before they discounted it. Freakin dealerships... Anyways thanks jnztuning for the good service and prices. I would have just waited for you guys to send me another one but I need a running car to get to work so I had no other choice. I'm sure I'll be back for oem stuff. thanks

Nothing wrong with trying to save a buck. You are in the minority though with having one of those Autozone rebuilt alternators hold up. Now go knock on wood.
