Review - VIS Carbon Fiber G Speed Hood

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

This hood will fit turbo and Non-turbo 2Gs. The hood is of high quality hood with a gloss shine. Installation was easy, the fitment was perfect. (The gap under the driver side headlight is because the car had front end damage and the front bumper cover is damaged.)

The hood is very light, the underside of the hood is a big scoop and the big vent cools the engine bay a lot.

If you have an open air filter, water will enter the filter when it rains. You will need a air filter shield or a filter that is waterproof (both can be bought on ebay).

Locking hood pins will NOT fit on this hood (I found out the hard way!). The slope is too steep and there is a 1" gap between the top CF layer and the bottom fiberglass structure layer at the place where I have my hood pins installed.

Two people told me that because of the big vent, there is not enough lift under the hood and I won't need hood pins. Two words for anyone getting a carbon fiber or fiberglass hood - HOOD PINS, HOOD PINS, HOOD PINS!!! (Well 6 words, not 2)

Edit - Mavisky: In fact if you look on the bottom of the hood near the latch on any Vis hood their badge actually tells you "FOR OFF-ROAD USE ONLY. USE HOOD PINS FOR SAFETY".

PM me if you have any questions.

At the request of another member, here are some pics of the big vent looking straight down into the engine bay. The quality is a little bad since it was taken with a 1.3 MP phone camera.
