basically i have been running my 1g TB with a 1g TPS for a while now in my 2g gsx. i was just wondering if there are any negative effects of doing so. I will still get loggable TPS readings from the 1g sensor with dsmlink. I am jsut wondering if it is necessary to swap them. And if so why?

the 2G TPS contains the closed throttle switch/idle position sensor. on the 1G it's a separate switch that also acts as the throttle stop.

so whats the drawback of using the 1g TPS on a 2g car?

i did not have to modify the harness... does anyone know the answer to this?

Then you either used the 2G TPS or your currently missing a IPS.
The 1G TPS doesn't have a IPS built in. It's located on the back of the throttle body.

Without an IPS the ECU doesn't know when the throttle is closed.

the harness still clipped right in, so what you are saying is that the ECU doesnt know when the throttle is closed? what negative effects does this have?

I too would like to know this, my guess would be surging/high idle?

Sorry for bringing up dead thread.

yes it will clip right it - if you look at your 1g TPS it has 3 pins while your 2g connector has 4. If heard of people running this way w/o many problems but why add somthing to the list of possible furture problems when its a easy fix.

Hmmm I'm running a 1G TB too and I'm assuming the 1G TPS as well. I don't think the shop swapped the TPS but I did notice that I am getting idle surge and high idle when the car isn't warmed up. It's quite annoying when I take off about a minute after starting my car to have the idle surging and revving at about +2K.

I was considering swapping back to the 2G TB to bolt up to the 1G IM but I don't know if it'll be a waste of time or not.

What should I do about the other wire then since I don't have the plug to go in it? is there a write somewhere about splicing that into the TPS sensor so the ECU knows? How did you guys hook up your 1g tb?

Alright, so I'm going to bring this back from the grave...

I just received my rebuilt 1G TB back from Steve over at throttlebodys.com and it looked great and everything although upon installing it, I was getting high idle. I did all the checks for the gasket, cable slack, ISC is new, TPS has normal resistance (5% idle), but I get this abnormally high idle even after the car is warmed up. I didn't even attempt to drive the car, instead I let the car idle until at operating temp, and it didn't change RPMs at all. The TPS is the same one I was running before I had the rebuild (which it ran perfectly on) so I don't think it is that.

I think it might be the Closed Throttle Switch although the connector is not there. Steve did mention that he installed a new one but I didn't think anything of it. Could this perhaps be the cause for my high idle? I also forgot to mention that I'm running this on my 2G w/ complete 6bolt swap so I don't actually have anything plugged into the CTS.
