just for shits and giggles search for "carousel." it's been asked before.

What is the little orange carousel looking light in the dash. It came on this morning and has been on all day.. I have seen it a couple of times before but it just came on for a second and went away.. But now its not going off...

Radiator. Check your fluid and keep an eye on your temp.

That's right. And next time think of a more appropriate name for your title. Something related to your problem.

Thats the coolant level dummy light.

Thanks. That worries me a little. I just put coolant in it like less then a week ago. I have been driving it really hard though. Thats not normal though is it?

If you put coolant in less than a week ago then no it is not normal. Do you smell coolant burning (sweet smell)? Are you blowing white smoke? What does the coolant in your reservoir look like? What does your oil look like? Any puddles under the car? Check these things and let us know. :thumb:

I would pressure test your system to see if it has any leaks that don't open up until you reach operating temp. You probably have the stock gauge which doesn't indicate your car getting warm until it starts to get to warm. I would check your thermostat and make sure it is working properly. It's a quick easy replacement and is usually the cause of overheating problems that come out of nowhere. I would check all of your hoses as well to make sure they aren't cracked or loose.

Ok. I checked the car. It is not leaking any fluid.. No puddles. The car doesnt smoke. and the coolant looks normal while its in the resevoir. Sometimes its smells like coolant, but not really noticeable. But I put coolant in it last night. After work it was EMPTY! No puddles no smoke, no smells.... Thermastat?

Also, I cant tell how hot my car is because there has been something wrong with my gauge since I replaced the clutch. Its spasmatic. It just jumps back and forth like a Tach. LOL

Does it rise and fall as fast as your tach or a little slower? If it's a little slower, you may have air in your lines. What is happening is:
1. Exhaust empties into coolant lines
2. Exhaust causes bubble and prevents coolant from passing.
3. Engine heats up and temperature rises.
4. Pressure builds as coolant is heated and finally it makes it past the bubble.
5. Coolant cools down parts and temperature falls.
6. Exhaust continues to work it's way into coolant line and it all starts back over again.
If this is the case, then we should :tease: you for not taking care of this when it first started happening. After you have driven it for awhile and you park, is the reservoir empty? Have you sat and watched it for 5 minutes? Do you see it bubbling back into the reservoir? :sneaky: Keep this up and you'll be replacing your engine. If this happens, I'd say it's time for a compression test. Good luck

d

No its extremely rapid. Like its on crack.. But, I am watching the coolant for 5 minutes to see if it bubbles back in to the resevoir right? and if it does then I'm not a happy camper?

PLEASE DONT LAUGH AT ME!! LOL.

But when I replaced the clutch I uhhh... well, kinda forgot about the fact that cars need coolant.... umm yeah.. It overheated to the point of it stalling out.. Dont ask how I didnt notice it is a long story.. But that was 3 months ago. And until about 3 or 4 days ago the car hadnt overheated or low on coolant.. then suddenly BAM! its low on coolant everyday...

do a 360 look around the block, that sounds as if you might have openly blew a valve cover gasket or a head gasket, check for any leaks directly from the block, a compression test is probably your best bet, any maintenece place can do it for like 20 dollars or less, even jiffy lube i do belive. keep us posted
